I tweaked the lofts on the 18* utility 1* weak, the D9’s about 0.5* strong, the CB’s 2* strong & that allowed consistent distance gapping all the way down to the 58*.

I like it a lot, much to my surprise! I had been playing the Stealth 2 Plus and TSR3…liked both, very similar appearance and performance. When my new irons came a few weeks ago the driver was in the box with a hzrdus smoke rdx 60g and I hit it as far or further than the other two. I haven’t hit it yet with the Ventus Red but I’m expecting even better performance and some tightening up on my misses.

I updated the bag to reflect a new custom set of D9 Forged irons w/kbs tour $-taper 110…what a responsive shaft! I still have the blended set of Staff Utility/D9 Forged/Staff CB with Recoil Dart 75…but I can’t resist playing a set of irons with a shaft I have wanted to hit forever. Swapped out the Wilson TM22 putter for the Scotty Squareback 2 but had to experiment with additional weights to get it balanced right for me. Shot even par on my fourth round with them last week.

I’ve been struggling to find a good three wood I could hit off the tee and fairway without much luck…until trying a Stealth 2 three wood with a hzrdus smoke red rdx 60g fwy shaft, which seems to be the magic ticket. I also have been using a Scotty Cameron Special Select Squareback 2 with an Evnroll tourtac grip that is amazingly consistent…so when a new Champions Choice Newport 2.5+ materialized in front of me I grabbed it before my coworkers could react.

I have tested the Dynapower Carbon driver seven ways from Sunday; with a tour issue head, retail head, hzrdus smoke rdx red 60g, ventus red tr velocore 50g shaft, and the Wilson Staff Model/Triad and new TP5 proto. Tour head is possibly a bit too open for me, retail head seems just about right. I thought I had enough speed to hit the ventus red…I was mistaken, the torque is to low, so the red rdx is just about perfect for my current ability. Staff Model ball was initially excellent but in the long run it’s just too firm (literally) and I get better results on my irons & wedges with Triad. Being a Wilson Staff Advisory Team member is a beautiful thing….      ⚡️⛳️🇺🇸

Now that temperatures are dropping I’ve swapped the 18* utility iron for a 19* Stealth 2 hybrid w/hzrdus smoke red rdx 70g…wow, that thing is long! I’m so impressed with that shaft I’ve orders a 21* Wilson staff utility iron with the same shaft, be interesting to see how much longer the club is vs the same model with recoil dart 75. I swapped out the D9F GW for a staff 48* wedge…which i hit way more consistently, much to my surprise. I also added a Scotty Del Mar as a spare putter for very fast greens & again had to add more weight…speedy greens always been my downfall. The Dynapower Carbon driver has been in the bag now six months and it is stupid long and consistent, and the Stealth 2 has got to be the easiest hitting fwy wood I’ve ever had. My last two rounds with this set up have been 74/76…👍⚡️🇺🇸⛳️

How do you like the D9 Forged irons? Have they given you the extra distance and forgiveness that you expected?

 

I saw a set last week in person and they’re gorgeous! Have been doing research and am considering trying out new distance irons for some extra yardage and forgiveness.

I’ve been playing the D9F for about 18 months and they are fantastic! My first set had recoil dart 75 which was pretty darn good but my current set with kbs $-taper 110 is next level insanity. I’m hitting shots like I did when I was younger…more distance and better trajectory. Very easy to hit and shape if you’re a ball striker.

There are a host of shafts available for custom order, much more than you see in the fitting cart.

Yeah, I saw there are some great shaft options on the website. Unfortunately 9-irons for the D9 Forged are out of stock, so not sure when/if those will be back in stock.

 

Will try to hit the D9 Forged, Srixon ZX5, and potentially PING i525 in the Distance category.

 

I gamed '23 P770's last season which are very nice irons. But didn't see too much in terms of distance gains or forgiveness gains over my previous AP2 714's or ZX7's.

Pfffft you're a Callaway guy like me. The D9's are a serious club. But I highly recommend the Rogue ST Pro irons.... I adore mine, and my 5 iron goes 210 so they're a distance iron too 😉

Callaway Woods/Hybrids have ended up being the best fit for me, and have had great results with Odyssey putters!
 

But I’ve never owned any of their Irons or Wedges.

 

Aesthetically there’s just something about their Irons that just don’t fit my eye. Would love to love the Apex irons, but something about the curve of the soles and backs just doesn’t work for me. And I don’t love the branding of the Epic, Rogue, Paradym etc irons.

 

I borrowed a buddies’ X-Forged for a while (I believe they were 2014’s), and they were really nice irons. But their Distance irons just don’t move the needle for me.

It’s all about using what works best for you and your game for sure.

 

I’ve tried lots of other Drivers too (see my thread for a crazy journey), but for whatever reason Callaway Woods & Hybrids perform best for my game.

 

I’m always open to trying different brands and clubs though, no OEM is paying me to play their stuff yet unfortunately, Lol.

I agree 100%…you like what you like, no apologies. Too many people follow the herd and are afraid to think outside the box…the clubs are all good, it’s all about feel/look & performance for you, not the guy next to you.👍⚡️🇺🇸⛳️

I wish the Wilson Staff putters came with more options on the interchangeable weights…can’t seem to get one heavy enough

You can get additional weights from customer service but the heaviest they have is 25g.

I am looking at getting into the new CB's from 6-PW and the DynaPower Forged from 4-5i. Would you recommend bending them weak to match lofts ? I see you play the D9 forged in a 5 so was wondering how hot it was ? Was hitting the D9 forged 7i around 200-205 carry so worried the 4/5 will be too hot
