Borderline yips with iron shots. Help.

Had a lesson three weeks ago. Pro wanted me to finish lower and left with weight on left side. Since then I have struggled from a mental block about releasing the clubhead. Slowing down into the ball instead of releasing and miss hitting every single shot. Losing 20 yards an iron and afraid I will shank. Have started shanking bunker shots as well. Absolutely soul destroying.

If you think it's still the right thing…

• Just play golf. Incorporate a feel or a thought if it helps. If not, just get the ball in the hole.
• When you practice, practice by exaggerating, doing it slowly, etc. Use some form of feedback: video, an aid, a mirror, drills… something.

If you think it's the wrong thing…

• Abandon it.
• Tell the instructor or find a new one.

Slowly is the problem. No rhythm as too focused on swing path.

Go to the range or simulator and just pound balls with that feel. Need to build your confidence in that feel and make it normal. 

 

Worst thing that happens you shank it or top ot but it's the range that's fine. There are no consequences out there if you hit a bad shot, line up the next ball and try for the same feel again. 

 

This is something I've had to do this year. It was frustrating at times then it clicks.
