Grass ball mark iron face

I seem to always get this grass ball mark on my iron faces after hitting, regardless of whether I'm hitting an iron from a par 3 tee box, fairway etc. I understand why it happens out of the rough, but I don't understand how it happens from par 3 tee boxes/fairways. Does this mean I'm hitting the ball slightly fat? Not much of a divot taker, have a steep swing that I'm working on and chunking has always been an issue for me. Thanks

Seems likely, I only get that mark when hitting out of rough where there is grass between the ball and face.

That happens when there is grass caught b/w the ball and the face at impact. Not sure why you'd see it off of a tee unless the grass on the tee box is abnormally long.

 

I feel like you would now if you're catching it fat...
