I have to disagree with that statement. The closer you are the more margin you have. You arent going to cost yourself more than one stroke if you flub up a 10 yd shot vs if you flubbed one from 200.

Maybe (but also no, like @SNIPERBBB says).

 

But it's also significantly easier to hit it within that margin of error. Missing the tee shot by 5° is pretty easy. Missing a putt by 5° is pretty difficult (plus, from 20', nobody on earth is "likely" to make it, so if you two-putt you're not losing much).

That's one of the reasons why the full swing is the area to make larger improvements to scoring. Not many penalty strokes in putting.

Well, it has been a little over a week since I started practicing the functional swing plane and I can say that so far this practice is working pretty good.  Combined with figuring out that I am rear post with a side on trail hand and neutral lead hand from watching Mike Adams videos I feel like I actually know what I am doing LOL.  My ball striking is the best that it has been in quite a while with less variability from day to day.  This is one of the very few drills that I have done where I seem to be incorporating the drill movement into my full swing.  Usually I develop a drill swing that is completely unrelated to my actual swing.  Anyway, practicing functional swing plane seems to be a good idea and I recommend it over bashing a lot of full swings shots.

 

Also the Mevo+ makes a significant difference because I am able to get immediate feedback on my path and face angle.  Working on zeroing out path and face angle is lot easier for me doing the short functional swing plane swings.
