I know these guys are dialed in, but seriously .5* of a degree??

I've wondered that too and I can't imagine players are asking for it super specifically, more that its a product of larger averaged data sets in testing and hitting numbers they know they need.

For example...player gets a new wedge, hits 100 balls with it, and its spinning like 250rpm more than they want or is averaging a carry that is like 2 yards more than their "number". All those numbers likely derived at some previous point in time when a player was really comfortable/confident with something. Dude has a favorite wedge based on confidence/performance, and either they or their team work to quantify everything about that wedge they can. Ball speed, average carry, launch, spin rate, turf interaction and then all the fitting elements like length/weight/grip/grind/bounce etc etc. Then whenever that wedge has to be replaced they can ensure as much as possible they're getting something that performs the same, even if that means tiny adjustments to hit all the documented numbers, something that Vokey might not only be happy to do but want to advertise like this as well with stamping that basically says "we'll make even the smallest adjustments to make you happy". 

Not sure if that's accurate, but it fits IMO, and could be one of the reasons Vokey's are so ubiquitous.
