Hackmotion left wrist

Recommended Posts

I never have been on on of these but would like to. I suffer from a pull draw or pull hook with driver.  I learned the game from Hogan bowing the left wrist and wonder has Hackmotion technology shown that this causes a pull hook?  Do most tour players go into left wrist extension through impact?  Anyone know what the data is?

If you over-do it, yes, you'll close the face too much and hit a pull or pull-hook, depending on your path.

But all good players add lead wrist flexion ("bow") between the top and impact. Into impact, their wrist is typically flat and headed towards extension, but is typically not "in" extension.

Here is info from Hackmotion's website:

How to read the graphs and some typical ranges for tour pros
(there are different wrist motion patterns, for example, Dustin Johnson would look quite different):

  1. Address – depending on the grip strength and other factors, usually from 10-40 degrees of extension (cupping). Typically weaker grips have less extension (10 degrees), stronger grips have more extension (40 degrees)
  2. Mid-Backswing – usually flattening of the lead wrist.
  3. Top of the backswing – most pros are slightly extended, what on video looks “flat” is actually slightly extended. Typical range is 0-30 degrees.
  4. Mid-Downswing – moving from extension towards flexion, flattening the wrist. Usually pros are squaring the clubface earlier and moving towards flexion earlier. Typical amateurs often increase the extension in transition (cup the wrist) and square the clubface too late in the downswing.
  5. Impact – 1 degree extension, almost perfectly flat. Usually tour pros have quite flat wrists at impact. Players with weaker grips and more shaft lean are more flexed/bowed. Players with stronger grips have more extension at impact. Typical range is +10 degrees to -10 degrees. This player is not extending wrist at impact, while others tour players are.
  6. After Impact – moving towards extension. The speed of gaining wrist extension is lower for some players, it can be seen as lower slope of the graph.

Dustin Johnson is a poor example of wrist movement because his wrist mobility is off of the charts even by tour standards .

Few golfers with a strong lead hand grip ( like Dustin Johnson ) have the wrist mobility to get  their lead wrist flat or bowed at the top or at impact . Golfers such as Speith and Rahm have weak lead hand grips; thus they  are able to get their lead wrist flat or even bowed .

The goal for most golfers who have a strong lead hand grip should NOT be to have the their lead wrist flat or bowed at impact , BUT to have their lead wrist in more flexion at impact than at setup. Doing so will result in the desired shaft lean

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
