Restricting Green Books at Junior competitions

There's an interesting article at Golf Digest's website about restriction the use of greens-reading materials. It's all in this article:

After reading it I've come to a few conclusions. First, they don't mention anything about using them in practice rounds. There also doesn't seem to be any problems using them in casual rounds, or for handicapping purposes. Second, while they can't be used once a ball is on the putting green, I don't see why players couldn't use them before their approach shots, reminding themselves of the green's contours before hitting the ball. In the end it's going to be a big memory game, with players studying and cramming green books if available, and online if someone uploads them somewhere.

Pre-round is fine ... From what I understand, the length of junior golf rounds have gotten ridiculous and something has to be done. Its getting to the point where they may not be able to have morning and afternoon tee times at some events.

THIS! I was a walking scorer for the Western Junior Am last summer, and could not believe how long the kids took on the greens. Rounds were over five hours. 

 

I heard a podcast today from the creator of Aimpoint. While he used to produce green reading books, he believes they should be illegal. Reading greens is a skill inherent to the game. I agree.
