Maui fires

Very difficult situation no doubt, my personally would feel guilty traveling to close to this major disaster. South Maui may be open, but allocating most of their resources to supply for Lahaina. So I'm not sure what I would do knowing that, but also knowing that they want normalcy and their tourist income to keep everything going.

That is one thing they keep addressing is that the idea of allocating the resources is some what misleading at this time now that they’ve been flooded with so much. They’re asking visitors to bring whatever they could need for toiletries etc and not have to buy any there but in a few weeks when we could possibly be there they just want our support and business . I was hoping to hear the opposite so it would make the choice easier but it’s beyond conflicting and confusing but sounding more and more like they want us in the southern part. Tough situation for all. Especially those actually affected

From the Instagram accounts I follow that are on the South side I get that vibe too, regardless I hope your honeymoon turns out to be awesome!

One thing that's upsetting is the amount of people claiming conspiracy theories on social media, sometimes I hate the world we live in haha.

Yeah if we go we’ll have to tin foil hats to bounce the space lasers away. The only lasers I want will come off the tee 😎

Maui resident here, really touching to hear the outpouring of sentiments from the golfing community. As someone whose livelihood relies on tourism, I will echo pepperturbo and southpaws comments that the rest of Maui is open. As will be kapalua and kaanapali. Please come. Bring your sticks and some reverence and all will be good. have you played Waiehu where byob and byo/cooler is ok? Did you know hotel Hana has a 3 hole short course?  That course on the edge of Kahului you see when you’re on the left side of the plane, the dunes, might have the best visitor rates for a course that can test all skill levels. And at times, the purest greens on the island. (Yes Makena I said that) And of course the venerable courses at wailea await, complimenting the beachfront resorts across the street. It may not have the kapalua cache, but there’s something magical about beginning the day with a morning canoe paddle launching from wailea beach, gliding atop the still glasslike water, then conveniently taking a shuttle across the street for a round, then lament post round on what couda shoulda over a cold pint and some darn good pie at manoli’s.  No worries on traffic, or rushing to a dinner reservation. Everything you could need encapsulated in south Maui.

certainly the other island adventure are available too, so come on out if Maui beckons, and support the many wonderful local business of central, south, east, and upcountry whose future hangs in the balance between worry and uncertainty. Live life like I golf, no lay up. Aloha

We have decided to continue with the trip and stay in Kihei instead of the kapalua area. Also got my notice from kapalua they cancelled my tee time and will be closed until the 15th or further notice. Thanks for reinforcing what we’ve heard from other locals and being welcoming.
