Adjusting tee height to fade or draw?

At my range the stock rubber tee is 2 3/4". I carry a 3" and 3 1/2" in my bag also. I put in the 3 1/2" and for the first time I was going left with the Cobra L4V (which supposedly can't go left). I put back the 2 3/4" and was hitting a fade (too much for my taste). I then put in the 3" and I was hitting it dead straight. Is this the angle of my swing or does the tee height affect the ability to fade/draw?

Tee height can effect the shape, most pro's tee it low so it won't go left and get a nice smooth fade, but they have a very repeatable swing... if you haven't got a consitant swing you can still spray it anywhere regardless of tee height...

 

If you want to fade and draw it off the tee you would be better off working on other things than tee height. Try moving your back foot forward (fade) or backwards (draw) a bit and swing normally. That's a tip Sergio uses and he's probably the best driver of a golf ball on tour, try it on the range.

My back foot was actually neutral during this experiment. I normally move my foot forward for a fade and back for a draw. This was the first time I took the different tees with me and I didn't know that tee height affects the shot shape. I was having trouble with casting last season and I started using longer tees which then turned into a major case of the lefts. Through lessons the casting problem was fixed. I was experimenting this past weekend with tee heights when I discovered this cause/effect relationship with tee height and shot shaping.

I only use tee height to influence trajectory. (not shape)

 

Some people will fade it easier hitting down I'm sure.

 

(I'm sure you can see how that works......with the face closing more and more and the clubhead continues forward.....i.e. ceases moving downward and starts moving upward)

 

But you can always alter your stance/plane line/clubface at address if you want more fade. (regardless of if you hit up or down)
