Current course conditions Avalon and Legion Memorial

The better half and I are heading down from Vancouver, Canada to Mukilteo  again on September 13 for a few days of R &R, good food and shopping.

 

She has agreed to one round of golf,  on  our  way down.

 

Both Legion Memorial and Avalon tick the boxes for being wife friendly, though it's been more than a few years for Avalon with Covid and other plans.

 

Any preference to course conditions right now?  Or if there is (finally!) some good downpours between now and then?  If it appears to be raining the day of play, she would want me to cancel though.

Been a month since I was at Avalon. They were having some water issues...as in not much available for the course. Many of the ponds they normally pull from were super low or bare. I can only imagine how much harder/faster it has gotten since then but maybe somebody else has been there more recently and they got the issues resolved. There is NO sand in any of the traps...they are rock hard...and full of rocks.

Legion otoh is in great shape. Fairways are mostly green and the greens are in very good shape albeit a tad firm. We've gotten a bit of rain the last few days and that should only help soften up the greens a bit. Unless things have changed irrigation wise...I'd say hard pass on Avalon. Don't overlook Snohomish either...played there this am and the greens are perfect right now...fairways are still pretty hard and fast but the rain took some bite off them. Both Legion and Snohomish are pretty wife friendly.

Great reply, thank you.  We diced in the last day ir two to do around after settled in which already probably eliminated Avalon. The course conditions you mentioned sealed that.

 

 So Legion or Snohomish and I've never played the latter. I'll check out Snohomish between now and tomorrow evening  when I hope to book a round for Saturday Sept 5.
