Swap G430 3h for TSR2 5 wood?

Teebs

Recommended Posts

Struggling to get much consistency with my G430 3h (Hzrdus red 6.0).

I've worked pretty hard over the summer to get better with my fairway woods (Rogue ST Max 3hl) and I'm looking to swap the aforementioned G430 for a TSR2 5 wood

Any views on shafts, will prob order with Tensei blue 65.

Currently 4.9 hc

Cheers

Got rid of my 3H for a G430 5 wood.  Much easier to launch and more consistent strikes.  Most likely do to a little less club head speed these days.

This has been what I’ve been trying to work as well. Last couple of weeks struggled with the G425 3H with accuracy and tops out of nowhere and playing the Sim 5W well. Distance is a difference though. I get anywhere from 10-20 more yds out of the 5 wood even when max lofting it up to 21.

Choking down hasn’t really mattered at all. So it’s either deal with the distance gap or keep practicing with the 3H to get back on track but currently just hate the feel of it.

Good shout. I feel like I have to swing a little too hard with the 3h so get the trajectory right. I've got a session booked on Thursday to demo a range of 5 woods, including G430 and TSR.

What shaft did you go for?

Sounds familiar. I have the G430 4h and it's great, just the 3h is a little unreliable..

I hate hybrids and a 41.5” TSR2 wood is my next purchase. Does Titleist adjust SW if you purchase -.5” short?

I went to a fitting this spring for the top end of the bag. I did try out 4wood and 5wood, 21 hybrid and utility.

I was hitting 4 different 16.5 degree woods but never felt comfortable with it. good shots where impressive, bad shots have been everywhere...

next step 5woods with lower loft, G430 and TSR came out as best. G430 sound not that nice and I did ot like the head shape. So I went out with a TSR 5wood in -0.5 inch and with a heavier sole weight. The shafts I did use for the TSR have been the TENSEI blue 65 and 75 and the HZRDUS black 4G.

My decision for the shaft have been not nearly as easy as the dicision for the head... the Tensei felt easier for me to swing this is why I did take it. But the HZRDUS Black was impressive as well, especially if I fall into a more agressive swing.

But I allready had an OBAN Kiyoshi purple in 75gr at home that I was using at my old fairway wood. it came out easy and so I did assemble a 2nd adapter and did try the TENSEI next to the Oban and the Oban made it again...

the 5wood category is very interesting... PING for example is very strong lofted for a 5 wood. you can take the G430 7 wood and turn down the loft sleeve and you have the loft of the Taylormade Stealth 5wood. the shaft also is on the long side, so lets just call the Ping G430 7wood a high flying 5wood in classic understanding...

They can.  Not sure if they'll auto-adjust because of the length change though.  You might need to request it. I'd call CS and check.

I asked my Titleist rep/fitter if they'd need to adjust the SW because my 3h was going to be 1/2" long, and he said that he wasn't.  Though I did try it at that SW during the fitting.

As to the shaft question, what shaft do you use in your current 3W, OP?  Why not try another of those, in either the same weight or bumped up 10 grams?

Thanks. I currently have Tensei Blue stiff (55g in my driver, 65g in the 3HL) and love the shaft. It's a standard option across the TSR range but not offered in the Ping G430. 😃

How strange.  Just OEM Things, I guess. It's not like Tensei Blues are that hard to find, either.  I'd start with a 75S in it, and see what happens.

If you're set on Titleist, see if a fitting rep is going to be in your area. They charge $100 for it---which thins out the herd you usually find at a demo day---but take it off the price if you purchase anything.  That way, you could get really dialed in with whatever you need to fill your current 3HL-wood to 4-hybrid gap.  Be it 5W, their 3-hybrid (which is great, but so is the G430 IMHO, and that isn't working for you), or whatever.

I'm actually booked in with a multi-manufacturer shop tomorrow to get fitted. I've bought from this shop before and they're really good. I've got all my ShotScope data too so I know the yardage window I need to hit, it's just a matter of finding something comfortable.

Fitting day today.

Settled on the TSR2 5 wood, Tensei 65s. Was hitting the numbers I wanted and I'm really comfortable with that shaft. Will prob loft it to 19° but see how it goes as standard.

Good luck!

this thread got me to order a TSR2 7 wood to try to replace the G425 3H. Hopeful like usual

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
