Hi all, new member and I’m not sure if this is in the right place. Went in for a fitting for the first time last evening. I’ve been playing sporadically most of my life now in my mid 30s. I use a set of Callaway Warbirds from 2011, CBs with a reg flex shaft. They’re pretty beat up and I’m starting to get a little more consistent so I decided to upgrade and find something nicer since I play and practice more often now. Went to PGA Superstore local to me with my 7i and tried a number of configurations from various manufacturers, Mizuno, Titleist, Taylormade, Srixon and shafts. We ultimately settled on Taylormade 790s with a Nippon stiff shaft as it felt the best and was giving me the best results. I felt pretty great On my way home but when I looked at the Trackman data I realized that I actually did much better with my old beat up clubs vs the TMs. On the data there are some fliers where I smashed in the mat and sent the ball to my right or left instead of in front of me, you’ll identify those by carry and other stats ; I spent an hour and 15 there hitting so I was spent towards the end where the TM data is presented but I had some slightly more consistent data leading up to that point earlier in that hour. I know my game and swing need work based on smash factor and angle of attack. Anyway, all input is appreciated.

It looks like you were most consistent with Purple.  Distances and dispersion were the tightest.  2nd would be Red.  Blue was not a good fit.  Just based on results, I would go Purple.  Question becomes did you like the Purple or Red set up better?

Purple is my existing cavity backed Warbird. Like I said in the post I had some mess ups with the p790 setup (blue) that is skewing the data visualization.

What shaft is in your Warbirds?  Did they happen to try that shaft in the TM?

The warbirds have a regular flex shaft and I can’t find any info on them probably because they’re such an old model. The fitter said based on my swing speed I should have a stiff shaft, which is why he put me in that.

I would say the purple was best as well. And ideally to compare apples to apples in my opinion I would have taken out any shots that were really bad. When I did fittings I would usually use the mizuno shaft optimizer to help narrow down shafts to start out with. They usually had the best and biggest variety of shafts to try. It would look at your speed, tempo, release, kick point and toe down. For one it kept you fresh to try different clubs and two I typically saw a clear cut winner of a shaft that outperformed the other two. And if that winner didn’t beat out what they currently had I would tell them to keep playing what they were playing. You also have to think about what you are wanting to gain. Like say you want to start shaping craps differently or controlling trajectory. Then you might need something different to give you the best chance at achieving that.
