I think I broke my other hamate bone 🤦🏻‍♂️

Back in May I broke the hook of hamate in my right hand, took forever to get it accurately diagnosed.

Mind you this was extremely painful. After a few months and a cast, I recently had a surgery to have it removed and it feels awesome to not be in pain. Low and behold, 4 weeks post op; left hand in the same spot is hurting. Though it's not nearly as intense, the location of it is precise and doing a pull test is telling me it's the hook. This is starting to become an absolute nightmare. Luckily I know what it is and have now scared myself straight, my question is has anyone ever had this issue and taken months off, have you experienced any healing? I do not want to go through this experience again financially and putting my career at stake with taking the time off, again.

Broke mine years ago while playing golf.  I don't think it was as severe as yours though because it healed but took a good 3 months.  It was very painful for awhile.  A very dull, throbbing pain.  I still get residual nerve pain in the area though every now and then.  I do feel you on recurring injuries though because I had to have minor surgery on my hip almost 6 weeks ago which I've injured a million times in the past.  It's feeling much better now though and hopefully I won't have to deal with these issues in the future.  Speedy recovery to you, bro.

I broke the right one about 15 years ago and had it repaired. 

 

I recently started having pain in my left hand and I was convinced it was the hamate. I had it x-rayed and examined by a hand surgeon yesterday. He didn't identify any fractures. He put me on Celebrex and wants to look at it again in 6 weeks. Hopefully it's a soft tissue injury or bone bruise that will self-correct. 

 

He offered to order a CAT scan or MRI which would likely reveal exactly what's up. I'm going to see where it's at in two weeks or so.

Yeah mine wasn’t officially diagnosed until he saw the fracture with an MRI. I’m literally the only person I know who truly injured there hand from golf, let alone both of them 😂

TFCC tear or partial sometimes presents similarly to a hook of the hamate.  I tore mine and broke the hook playing golf.

 

 It's always somewhat of a gamble to know if the bone will heal.  The risk of it not healing THEN having to do the surgery vs having the surgery to know it's done and on the road to rehab.

Why two threads? Just bump your other one if you think it wasn’t getting attention. 

 

Don’t be dumb - see a doctor and get proper diagnosis and treatment.  Suggesting that because some strangers on the internet may say, “hey, mine healed up fine” you would avoid proper medical treatment for your injury (for which there is no way to know if it’s the same as someone else’s on the internet) is ….. dumb.
