Had a Driver Fitting - Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Had a driver fitting for the first time ever. Do these results seems accurate. I want to make sure before going out and buying a new shaft. Posted in the other subforum, but got no replies. Below are my results. Had some surprising results. Cobra LTDx, Hzrdous Blue 6s @ 10.5 degree is my current setup. Used a Snell MTB Prime X ball.

First swings with my current driver were my typical misses. Low pulls and fades.  My path was on average -6 which is tough to play with. We tried a bunch of different shafts, but I was still launching everything near 70 yards high which is still low. We lofted my driver to 12 degrees, and I started to get my launch to around 100 yards, even saw 120 which is very high. Got my path to -3 by swing more right and trying to get contact higher on the toe side. My previous strikes were lower heel shots. I then went back and hit my current driver to compare, and the Tensei AV 65x outperformed my current driver shaft. Dispersion was much better, higher and straighter with more distance.

Attached are my Trackman results for my old setup, old setup @ 12.5 degrees, and fitted setup. I was shocked that I had to go to 12.5 degrees of loft to get a decent height on my balls. Why is this? Do you think the fitter got it right? I was also shocked at a x-stiff shaft, but it felt smoother than my old stiff hzrdous blue.

Spin loft was around 12, which is why I was launching it so  low I guess.

Here are my thoughts... that would not lead me to NOT buying a new shaft

  • Your most consistent swings and results were with your HZRDUS Blue at 12.5 degrees.
  • You said, "Dispersion was much better, higher and straighter with more distance."
    • The data you supplied does not support that as you only gained an average of two feet of height and four yards of distance with the X flex
    • That's negligible given the number of shots recorded.
    • Without dispersion numbers (how far offline the shots were) or dispersion patterns for us to to see the improvement in anecdotal.

On a related note, your launch was approaching 100 feet, not 100 yards.

The stiffer shaft always is a bit better for your dispersion pattern.
the swing speed would not require a X shaft but this does not mean anything. First of all it needs to be functional for your swing. If you want to work on your swing, wait with a new shaft. If you are happy with your game, take the stiffer shaft with the lower spin numbers. Is the difference in the 12 degrees setup noticeable enough to buy an extra shaft?

I agree there isnt much of a difference. The dispersion with the Tensei was noticeably better, having less left misses than the hzrdous blue.  The feel of the Tensei was more to my liking as well. We also took my bad shots out. The hzrdous had a lot of pulled shots, and the Tensei did not.

I really dont like the look of the closed face with the 12.5 setup, i just couldnt get the 10.5 high enough. Maybe a ball change would work?

The shaft isnt super expensive, so I might just get it, as I am really working on speed training over the winter.

I agree with everyone else's assessment here - I think the Tensei might be best for you, but I'm not sure its worth the investment (unless its not too expensive to switch out).
