Disney courses

I'm taking the family to Disney World this summer for 10 days. I've built in some getaway time for a round of golf, are the courses on Disney property worth playing? I can't tell if they're actually nice, or just nice because they're at Disney. I was thinking the Magnolia course, would you say it's the best on property? Worth playing there or is there a course nearby you'd hands down play instead? Thanks for any input

Central FL resident here. I'd say play the Magnolia or Palm. They are finishing up renovations on Magnolia right now on the closing holes. Conditions are always pretty solid. Just note summer is our 'Off season' so lower prices but you run the risk of aerated greens.

As for the area my favorites are Southern Dunes (perhaps a bit of a ride), and shingle creek, OCN has 2 courses, played a few times and conditions were either great or spotty. Southern Dunes is my favorite in the area. I'd play that over Disney,

I am also a local. Southern Dunes is also my favorite, but it will take you at least 45 minutes to get there from Disney.

Disney Palm and Magnolia are fine, but have gotten very expensive.

If I was staying at Disney, I'd play Grand Cypress Links. Very close, very good, but very expensive.

If you are looking for somewhere close to Disney that's a bit less expensive, check out the Reserve course  at Orange Lake resort.

I was there this past October on a tournament, played all three courses, Magnolia (as stated only 14 holes are open at a lower rate), Palm $143 for peak times to $55 for twilight (nice course but tight at 6800 yards from the tips) both of these are next to the Grand Floridian Resort/Polynesian Resort in the Shades of Green Hotel area, then there is Disney's Lake Buena Vista, this one is located in Saratoga Springs Resort (Pro tip: if you are driving use the resort name in you GPS for this course, if you type LBV the GPS will take somewhere else) from $145 during peak hours to $55 for twilight (after 3:30 if I remember correctly), they do have military, first responder, etc, discounts as well (all courses), I enjoyed LBV since it was a bit more challenging it is only 6700 yards from the tips, so it's not too bad, like you, I always plan for a round of golf every time I go to Disney...sure there are better courses outside the resort, but I just enjoy being in Disney...have a great time!!!

Thank you all, that gives me some things to look at. Definitely think I'd do Palm over Magnolia if I stay on property, at least this year

You could also look at Celebration golf course or the courses at Orange County National. Both are a 10-15 minute drive, depending on where you're staying. I've been to Disney many times and played both places, in addition to the Disney courses. We always stay at Saratoga or Old Key West so I usually just end up playing LBV. Never really had any issues with the course other than it being a bit wet from those afternoon summer thunderstorms. It's an enjoyable course with some challenging holes

Which one was that?

He's referring to Osprey Ridge (Tom Fazio) and/or Eagle Pines (Pete Dye). The Four Seasons resort at Disney World sits in part on the site of what was the Eagle Pines course and is adjacent to what was Osprey Ridge. Fazio renovated Osprey Ridge,  now called Tranquillo. You need to stay at the Four Seasons or be a member in order to play it. They were both good courses.
