Titleist U505 vs Mizuno JPX923 HM

Hi,

I am looking for a utility iron and I tried the U505 against a meaty 5i, both with 22 degrees. I was surprised to see that the numbers were almost identical. The Mizzy was a little bit longer with less spin, the Titleist a tad more consistent. But very minor differences.

Admittedly, the Recoil shaft in the Mizuno was a better fit for me than the HZRDS black in the Titleist. Yet I was expecting the 4 utility to outperform a 5i in almost every metric (launch, height, ball speed, carry).

Thoughts?

If shaft length and lofts are the same i guess it's not THAT surprising.

I would have thought the U505 would have a longer shaft but maybe i'm wrong

An incorrectly fit shaft can make a 5-7yd difference pretty easy though. I'm a very low spin player, if you put me in too low launch a setup my numbers are awful

Thanks Jeff. Both lengths were stock, so the U505’s shaft was a bit longer. Too bad Titleist does not offer the U505 with interchangeable shafts in the fitting cart.
