Can you see "the line" ?

Just wondering how many people can see "the line" once in a while when putting. I have walked up to the green on numerous occasions thinking that I have no chance at making this putt. I mark my ball have a look at the break and then set the ball down. As soon as that ball gets back on the green there will be times when I all of a sudden see a line on the green from my ball to the hole. Putt on the line and it goes in, even the long ones... just weird...

 

Anyone else have this experience once in a while as well?

I agree with the above poster. Some days I see it and basically just walk up and hit it knowing it's in. Those are great days. I've explained this to friends and they just look at me like I'm insane.

That "In the Zone" is a great feeling to have and very contagious. The fairways and greens look 10 miles wide and the cup looks like a big ole bucket. I will admit though that I am not the best at reading a green but I do have my days now and then when it appears as though the break was embossed into the green for me. My PEAK Golf Glasses help me out a great deal on most days.

 

And explaining this feeling or "vision" is hard for others to grasp. Some people just do not get it.

lately, i have been seeing the line almost every hole. its my distance control that i struggle with from 20+ feet. I have been making way more putts lately then i have in a while... and i like it.

Now I just wish I could hit a decent drive and second shot.

Yes, I can usually see a line. And then I try to pick a target spot on the green a foot in front of my ball.

 

When I'm "off" it's because my speed is bad, not because of bad reads.

I see it almost every time - most often I won't get out of my crouch behind the ball until I do.

 

Once I have it, I try to completely focus on the speed needed.

 

IMO, it's mandatory to making putts.

yeah, seeing the line isnt that hard for me. its just distance control. i play at two differnt courses and htey both have two completely different greens in terms of speed etc.

 

i guess that just meeaaans more practice :wub:

I'm all about speed when putting. I'll see a line, pick a spot next to the hole that I can aim at to get me on that line, then forget about the line and just concentrate on speed and solid contact. if my speed is on, get out of the way. . .I've had rounds where having less than 30 putts is a foregone conclusion. if my speed is off, still get out of the way because my ball is flying past the hole and towards your feet.

Sometimes you walk up to the putt, and just think... "Uhhhh... I have no idea."

 

Sometimes you just walk up, but a good stroke on it and you knew it was going in the whole time.

What i think he means is the line you see from a prior ball rolling from your same position. In the right sunlight you can see it, it looks almost white or just lighter than the grass. I LOVE THOSE MOMENTS!

That's my biggest problem right now. Once in a while it just stands out but the rest of the time I have a real problem with it.

Sometimes I "see" the line in my minds eye really well, other times not. I've stood over 70 foot putts knowing I couldn't miss and 2 foot putts, knowing I wouldn't make it. Funny game!

 

A couple of years ago, I played a round with a guy that swore to me that when he was a kid, he would literally see a darker green line on the green on every putt, that would mark the path of the ball all the way to the hole. And he meant literally, as if it was really there an not just in his mind. Had a hard time believing him, but he swore it was true.

 

Sometimes, if you look carefully, your ball will leave a little "trail" usually slightly lighter in color than the surrounding grass, even when the greens are really dry. If there's someone else putting first on your line, you can see the path they left on the green.
