it's come a long way from a year ago...

okay so for the first time since i first picked up a club a little over a year ago, i'm taking serious lessons, and it seems to be working so far. i've picked up about 10-15 yards with each club, and went from hitting a high fade to a nice piercing draw. it's not quite complete yet, but here's just a clip of me hitting driver from yesterday.

driver: TM r7 425 tp 9.5 with UST Proforce V2 66g stiff
ball: TP Black w/ LDP
ss: avg. between 95-100
avg. driver distance: 245-255 carry

bump, c'mon guys! do your worst, that's why i put my swing up on here. i already kind of know what i'm doing wrong still and what i still need to improve, but i just want to see if anyone else can spot it so it will confirm what i've been thinking.

Honestly, it's hard to say with just a down the line shot, would really need to see one head on.

 

Plus with you tube it's hard to look at everything frame by frame, but here's what I can see from the video.

 

You seem to have a closed stance and are pointing the club face to the right like you're fighting a hook and you also seem to take the club back a little too flat for your stance which seems to be upright, though you're not coming over the top it can still take power away from your swing because you have to make adjustments on the way down to keep it in line and if your timiing is off you're going to go right.

 

Try working on bringing the club back a little more upright, you'll get a good idea if you watch Tom Watson's swing, and try squaring up your stance, just use a club on the ground lined up with where your feet should be on the target line.

 

That's the best I could offer, the video is a little tough to disect due to the shaking and inability to really break it down frame by frame, plus we can't see your head on setup or grip.

 

None the less, hope this helps some.

I agree with the post above. Closed stance goes along with shut face. You come out of your tilt really early probably because you where tired of hitting fat shots??? You're just not dump'in it on the ball. Looks more like a sweep release get out of the way motion..Hard to see the driver at the top to compare with wrist but I would bet you have a strong grip and it all starts there...

yeah that's actually exactly what i thought when i looked at it...i used to hit a big high fade that really went nowhere, and where i play the wind tends to swirl up so it always balloons, so my teacher put me with a stronger grip (mine used to be excessively weak), and swinging a little bit more upright, which has improved alot from where it was, but is still not completely over my right shoulder, which is where we're working on getting my swing at the top...as far as aiming right, i think that maybe the camera angle, as my friend wasn't right behind me. as far as hitting shots fat, i dont really hit shots fat, i actually hit more thin than anything. thanks for the advice and confirming what i initially thought.

not sure why you start 10 steps behind the ball... you might be aiming in the wrong spot, cause you have to walk 10 steps to get to the ball and lose your line by the time you get there...

 

and that was a pretty lousy golf shot there... wasn't it...? you should have done a reshoot... :wub:

wow, when i said gimme your worst i didn't mean your WORST...actually it was a good shot. it went about 250 down the middle with a little draw...not bragging, that's actually how the shot ended up, it was a little low if that's what you're referring to.

are you counting the two steps i took to take my stance? because i was just counting the amount of steps it took to get to the ball. and yes it carried about 200 of the 250 yards, the tee shot was a bit into the wind, and it was windier than it looked, so i teed it pretty damn low, and got a pretty damn low ballflight.

bumpitty bumpy bump, hit up the range this morning, and i really can't remember the last time i was hitting it this well. it's too bad that it started getting so damn windy towards the end, otherwise i would've went out and played asap, but i'm glad i got it on tape so i can remember what i did so good. and i made sure to get my swings down the line, and face on for good measure.

 

1. sand wedge - 95 yds.

 

2. 8 iron - 148 yds.

 

3. 4 hybrid - 195 yds.

 

4. driver - 255-270 yds. (towards the end i hit 3 in a row that carried about 265, couldn't see how much they rolled because the end of the range is a big mound and any balls that reach that far roll down into a collection area that can't be seen. but they felt good and the fact that i've never been able to get it to the end of the range shows how much i've progressed, and that's very exciting. i'm think i'm gonna have to start entering a few more club tournaments. ;)

(oh yeah i made sure to export it at a bit higher quality than the last one, and i tried to make my swing more upright as how my teacher was telling me, and the golfwrx crowd was suggesting.)

How about somebody try giving some advice that actually matters......5, 10, or 7 steps, whatever. For playing for a year, you have got a great golf swing, very consistant throughout the bag, and nice tempo. Im no teacher so im not going to try to give you any real advice, just wanted to compliment you golfswing, it looks like you have worked very hard

thank you, yes i have worked really really hard, i just know that i can get some more consistency/distance out of it. one thing i did notice on my driver swing just watching it a moment ago, is that on the downswing i never really get my left arm fully extended, it doesn't chicken wing, but i bend my elbow before i ever really fully extend it, i know this has gotta be costing me a few yards, am i right?

I see a little sway on the backswing, but you get back to the ball very nicely - better than I could ever do when I sway. What are your typical misses? Excellent tempo, that alone is going to help you along nicely.

yeah that sway does annoy me a bit, but it's not really that drastic, so i can live with it for now. my typical misses lately are pulls, but that mostly has to do with me not turning fast enough through the ball, and my hands take over. i used to fade the ball and because of that i was afraid of really accelerating or turning to fast and hitting a banana ball, so when i try to swing a little faster and get some more clubhead speed, i tend to flip the club because sometimes i'm afraid i won't be able to release the club in time. but it's slowly but surely getting better.

Yeah, just got to realise if u accelerate in your turn through to the left, the club will square itself up :). Not a bad swing - though you seem a little 'loosey goosey' att. Nice and pretty close to being on plane at 9o'clock too

Drill of choice for you should be half swings with pw off tee. Focus on solid hits with smaller swing.

 

Goal is learn core pivot of swing and LESS LEFT SHOULDER SWING. Let stomach area pivot feeling resistance of left shoulder going back. This will help your backswing balance. DO NOT LET WEIGHT GO TO RIGHT HEEL in backswing.
