Finger numbness

Question. 

Has anyone had numbness in their fingers after playing a round of golf?

 

Here's the set up. I play with graphite shafts, but for the past few weeks have played with steel shafts.

Regardless of the shaft, I use SuperStroke grips that have the seam running down the back.

Temps during the rounds played with steel have been in the low-40's at the start, upper 50's by the end.

I also have a tendency to hit behind the ball (a never ending challenge) and at least once a round, my divots resemble fox holes large enough to hold a platoon.

 

I don't wear a glove and the numbness is on the tips of my ring finger and middle finger on my left hand. 

About an hour after the round, the numbness turns to stinging and by supper, it's faded.

 

Could it be a result of the steel shafts and the impact of the club numbing my fingers?

Cold weather impacting things much like hitting a baseball bat in cold weather stinging your hands?

Most likely nerve impingement in your arm or shoulder.  I had it in the thumb and forefinger.  I let it go so long that eventually the muscles atrophied and I could not cut my nails with a clipper.  

 

After two neurologists and many tests, it was diagnosed as thoracic outlet syndrome.  Stretching keeps it at bay.
 

The muscles regained some strength but not all.  Long way of saying don’t let this get too far.

I've had some since Dr. Malpractice operated on my tennis elbow - residual numbness mostly in thumb and first two fingers of left hand.  The tennis elbow is gone, lol, but you've never seen anyone not want to discuss why my fingers were numb for the fist time ever immediately following surgery more than that guy.  Sent me off for a nerve study, then at appointment to tell me about results said I had carpal tunnel and started telling me/selling me about how he could go in a do a release and so forth, I said I'd see how things went for a few months and left.  Then I got in touch with the hospital where the nerve study was done, in about 30 minutes they emailed me the documents - the conclusion included the possibility of carpal tunnel (never had a reason to have it, no symptoms ever, lol) but also mentioned "alternative clinical explanation to discuss with patient".  Of course, Dr. Malpractice left out that part.  Oh well.  It's an annoyance and hasn't gotten worse but still there after several years.

Or your neck,  I know this all too well.  
Given this has happened, you’d best stay away from steel shafts.  Using steel you’re just making it worse.

That is probably coming from your neck.  I should know I have 6 levels fused in my neck due to OPLL disease you need to have it checked out by a neurologist as soon as possible.

In the process of swapping out all my steel shafts for fiberglass. 

 

Numbness faded, as it has in the past, with the first joint of each of the affected finger is a bit sore. Nothing terrible. More discomfort than pain. I'm going to try taping those two joints and monitor. I've got the fiberglass shafts in the bag and if the numbness returns, I'll check with my doc.

 

Thanks for the insight. Really need to stop hitting behind the ball.

You should research carpal tunnel and associated symptoms.

Turf, temps, steel and release make it worse.  I never had any problems after resolving steep and armsy.
