Alternative to Arccos WITHOUT sensors

Recommended Posts

I have loved the data, on course GPS with slope/weather adjustments, club distances, and SGA and handicap tracking that arccos gives. The thing I HATE is the sensors. They have become more and more a headache. I don't always notice them, but I have noticed that I think about how to grip the club to not grip the sensor. I also have lost three sensors that have flown out of the grip during my swing, and either haven't been able to find them or noticed on the next hole. I have brand new grips (superstroke s-tech cord), so I know it isn't age or wear in the grip that is causing them to come loose. I have had enough, and after 2 years I am wanting to move on.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a golf app that works with the apple watch as well as arccos? The main things I am looking for is apple watch connectivity, slope and weather distance adjustment, and score keeping. I like the strokes gained data, but I think losing that would be worth saving the $155 a year in subscription fee.

Are you looking for something to "auto" track stats similar to how Arccos is supposed to work?

It becomes a pain sometimes but it seems like 18birdies w premium would fit the bill

I know that auto track doesn't work without sensors, and I would be fine with having to manually track shots.

I use GolfPad (premium version) with a WearOS/Android watch and tell it what club I'm hitting (when I remember).  Works good for me and seems to give good distances as well as "plays like" distances.

I had Arccos and hated the sensors (as well as the annual cost), and a few times it just stopped working in the middle of a round.  Very happy with GolfPad, for me it is just right.

I use GolfPad with a watch for this reason. Really did not like sensors and my experience with Arcos.  Love that I can easily select a club as I'm getting into my shot and it's easy to make changes during the round.

You definitely lose some of the polish and higher-end shots gained data. But, none of that data is any good if the tracking is all over the place and frustrating me during the round.

When you use GolfPad, can you select which club you're hitting on the watch or do you have to get the "tags" for shot tracking?

You can select the club from the watch, you have to set up shot tracking (vs scorekeeping only) in the app to enable it.  In use you press "Track" when you get to your ball and select the club.  Simple but I occasionally forget to select a club.  GP uses the GPS of the watch (or phone) to calculate the distance between club selections.

At the end of the hole you select "putt out" from the track menu and confirm (or set) your score for the hole, that moves you to the next hole.

I select from the watch.

It’s the best way to conveniently and reliably track imo. Given my experience with the annoying Arcos tags, I would not invest in the same tags from GolfPad.

I use GolfPad mainly for distance* and scoring. Tracking shots can be a PITA, especially when you forget to mark your shot, and it's not the most accurate (especially for putts). GolfPad also has their own set of tags that you can use with the app. The other problem with GolfPad is that it drained my watch's battery (Galaxy Watch Active2) like crazy. I upgraded to the Watch 6 over the winter, so we'll see.

Another vote for Golf Pad, used it for several years before moving to a V3.

I used GolfPad for two 9 hole rounds this weekend, and I miss the interface of Arccos. I know I have to expect less when going from $155 to $30 apps, but the ease of use on Arccos' app is so much better. It makes me wish that Arccos had a plan without the shot tracking, because the sensors can be that annoying. The Apple Watch app for Arccos is just SO GOOD. GolfPad would probably have been more impressive if I wasn't coming from Arccos, and to be fair it did what it advertised. My problem is the Apple Watch integration isn't as seemless, and I don't like how much I had to pull my phone out if I forgot to tap my watch to track the shot and had to go back to edit where I hit from. I also love on Arccos where I can swipe to see how much elevation there is on the shot and what the wind is doing from the watch. I also haven't been able to find where to edit my bag on GolfPad, for instance I don't carry a 3h or a 4h and there wasn't a gap wedge for me to select to track my shots with. I think I am going to stick with Arccos for now, and maybe glue in my sensors to keep them in my grips lol.

For Golf Pad when I used it: Edit the bag in your profile/settings.  The watch can show wind, elevation, etc. with a swipe. I think it was a swipe up if you had that feature active. I thought having to track by watch was a huge distraction, but the layout was intuitive.  However forgetting to track via tapping the watch to select club caused pain and I’d only correct after the round.  I then went to the sensors for several years.  I’d still forget a few times during the round, but would correct after.

Ive used Golfshot for years now and it continues to advance. You can put in distances for your clubs averages and it will suggest a club and track from there. You can change the club before the shot via the watch or phone app. It also used the watch for your swing ID which is a good training aide and it also gives you strokes gained and pin location option when it recognizes you're on the green.
