TSR2 Fairway Club Head Weights

I did a search of the forum for TSR2 Fairway club head weights and found mostly info for driver.

 

I was curious about swing weights etc with clubs I recently purchased (TSR2+) so went to the store and asked them to weigh the club heads I already have. They kindly obliged and weighed my TSR2+ 14.5, TSR2 16.5 and my TSR2 21. The results are as follows:

 

TSR2+ = 209g

TSR2 16.5 = 209g

TSR2 21 = 221g !!!

 

I was surprised by the weight of the TSR 21 degree loft since it feels the lightest to me. 

The technician (at local Golf Galaxy store) was as well.  

 

So for those of you that are curious about any of the above here it is. Hope the 21 degree driver head weight is accurate.

Those are a little on the heavy side but that's not uncommon with all the high balance point (counterbalanced) shafts that tend to be in use.   "Standard" head weights are along the line of 210 for 3w or 3+w and 220 for 5wd.   Remember you have to add the weight of the adapter to the weight of the raw head to get the actual full head weight.  With Titleist, that's another 6-8 gm.

 

But the light feeling is more likely in part due to the shorter playing length.   Titlest jumps down a full inch between the 3wd and 5wd (most other companies only drop 1/2") - and then the standard 1/2" between 5wd and 7wd.    So that makes the 7wd a 1/2" shorter than most other companies 7wd's.  More like the typical length of a 9w.

 

Shaft weight and balance point also play a big role in how light or heavy the club will feel, so that has to be a factor as well.    Did you get the swing weight while you were there?

I did get swing weights.

Full disclosure, The head weights were each with 5g weights (stock is 9) so I added 4 grams to the weights he measured. Also, this was a head straight off a shaft so included all adaptors.

 

The swing weights the technician measured for each are:

 

TSR2+ = D0. Actual head weight 204 with 5g weight installed. Stock Titleist grip (TV 360; 49.5g)

TSR2 16.5 = C9. Actual head weight 204 with 5g weight installed. Mid-size Golf pride grip (2 cord; 56.5g)

TSR2 21 = C9. Actual head weight 217 with 5g weight installed. Mid-size Golf pride grip (2 cord; 56.5g)

 

Shafts were all Mitsubishi Tensei blue 65g regular stiffness. No modifications were made to shaft lengths

Sorry, not sure I understand this.  If it just came off of the shaft, how could it include the adapter?  Wasn't the adapter still glued onto the shaft when they put the head on the scale?

Sorry for any confusion. Yes I handed them the club with shaft and all intact as it would be when you use it.  They then removed the head and weighed it on their scale as it was when removed from shaft. I  probably should have looked at it before commenting 🙂
