My swing please Comment!

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm a 20-25 handicapper, It's going to get lower as I feel I'm swinging better! My main problem is my distance!! Max drive is 230! That's when I pound it!! Realistically around 210-220. I hit 50% of my fairways, most my misses are pushes or pulls. My driver is a R7 425 with Diamana Blue Stiff 63g. I think the problem lies in hand with my driver, definatly not with me!!

if it is your driver, then maybe the person who help fit your driver for you didn't do it correctly, i.e. the shaft might be too stiff, or something like that.

I think you need another driver or at least a different shaft. Find a launch monitor. Your hands at address need to be a little more forward and you might benefit from moving the ball up a little in your stance. Looks like you aren't releasing the club which would explain your short driving distance. Not a bad swing for a 25 handicapper though. I've seen a lot worse from lower handicaps. What's with that deep knee bend before you hit?? haha Just messing with you. :)

Your swing looks fine to me, for a high-handicapper. The only way that you will hit the ball further is if you start doing things that will promote hitting it farther. That may be out of your realm of possiblities and you will just have to settle on hitting it the way you do now. As it goes for the shaft, I think you need to get on a launch monitor to see if that Diamana is not the right shaft for you.

Did you say "boom" at the end of your swing on the second, front view video. If so, then you need to buy a Hammer driver from Jack Hamm.

My wife said it's the funniest thing she has ever seen!! I'm mentally trying not to do the knee bounce now, but i still do it!

With my hands forward do you mean standing a lil away from the ball, or hands forward as in left foot? Releasing the club is that the flop of the wrists, right over left? Whenever I try to do it, I pull hook, bad! I'm actually trying to trade my driver for a reg flex or light stiff shafted 460 cc driver, but I cannot attach any pics, i have photos of it though.

BOOM 210 DOWN THE PIPE!!

Hi Hollywood,

I agree with Philfest - your swing looks pretty good for a high handicapper. Getting distance and consistency will probably take a while and you could use a lesson or two. Here is some good short term advice, which of course is only based on watching your video a few times:

1. IMO, that driver shaft has gotta go. It is probably too stiff for you. A launch monitor fitting would really help IMO.

2. Smooth out your tempo and don't swing so hard. Swing fast, not hard!

3. Stand a bit closer to the ball and take a slightly more upright swing path. This should give you a little more speed and also allow a smoother tempo. You coil well, but aren't limber enough to complete your backswing without a lot of effort. This often results in pull hooks or push blocks if your hands get caught behind you.

4. When you start your backswing, you are uncoiling too fast because of the tension, which results in an early release. Don't worry about your hands rolling over.

5. Open up your stance an 1" or 2" and turn your left foot outward about 22-45*, which will allow your hips to open and turn without tension.

5. Relax.

6. Don't lose the deep knee bends - very entertaining!

yup, nail on the head. you need to get the ball forward in your stance, opposite the left armpit, with your hands more even with the ball(shaft will point about to your left armpit as well). your current ball/hand position will force you to open your club face to get the club set at the top.

Releasing the club is that the flop of the wrists, right over left? Whenever I try to do it, I pull hook, bad!

NO! IMO releasing the club is not flopping the wrists. releasing the club should be a natural reaction to having set the club properly in the backswing, and swinging down on plane in good sequence. NO good ball striker simply flips his/her hands at the ball, the release should be un-contrived and not manipulated.

getting the ball/hands further to the left at address should help. just my take though.......
