Ping G430 Max forgiveness but in 8* ?

I absolutely love my 430 Max 10.5* but want to try a two-driver setup. 

 

I might go with a 430 9* head turned down, but I'm willing to consider other options if I can get into a 8* (stock) head with forgiveness/MOI that matches the G430 Max. 

 

Anything out there I should be looking at?

I’m about to move into a 430 max 10.5.  It’s an interesting head with high moi but not high spin from all accounts.  Really excited about giving it a go.

 

Very intrigued to hear more about moving into a low loft on this head as well.

I would inquire if you can get a digitally lofted 9 degree that is 8 or close to it.

TSR2 is the closest you’ll get IMO.

I looked throughout the store for a 430 to hit in an 8.0 degree but I only found 10.5 lofts throughout the entire store.

I have a 9* 430 max and really like it. A few quirks if I may that I found for me.

 

First a very heavy head especially with the Kaili white I have in it. A bunch of different head weights did the trick...right now running a 19g instead of the stock 25g.

 

The other thing, I hit up on a driver 4-5* and don't put a ton of spin on the ball. At std 9* the face is a bit closed and with my draw can lead to a few misses in the right rough or behind some trees. (I'm lefty)

 

To counter that and try for a flatter flight I turned it down to 8*. Face angle is great, flight came down obviously but I'm not 100% sure I have enough spin to max carry.

 

One more try I used the flat setting as this driver seems to be upright to my eye (also contributing to a draw), and the flight has been awesome! No fear high bombs that carry a long way, for me.

 

These drivers are great, just may take some time tinkering

Ping really needs to add a 8 or 7.5* head into their mix. 

 

I can get away with the 9 in big minus, but I'd prefer the 7.5 neutral or 8 in small minus. But would prefer a more neutral setting.

I  always get Ping to "digitally loft" a head for me at 8 degrees that sits square. The cost is nothing it does take time though. They will get it as close as possible for you. Makes a HUGE difference for me.

Why not just do a 9 degree 10k , which will spin considerably less than a 10.5 regular max. 
 

going from a 10.5 to an 8 head seems like a strange move to me. Too big of a jump and one of them prob doesn’t fit you well.

Crazy thing for ping with the 430 max head is it’s closer to the lst than ever before.  Marty Jertson mentioned it in a video with Ian Fraser.
 

I found the spin does not go over board even in the max head.  High launch though, but sits right around 24-2600 spin which is a perfect range for me.  Playing around with the weights and even putting some hot melt in the head could really change the feel and sound as well.  

Could be a fun project for sure with a lower head.
