46 Wedge bent to 45 INSTEAD of PW??

Hey all. So basically, I bought a used set of cobra king forged cb/mb in great condition for a steal, but it came 4-9 irons. Now, rather than buying a matching PW (which is quite costly), do you guys think a specialized wedge (vokey, jaws, MG) that’s 46 degrees, bent to 45 degrees would be a reasonable substitute? I am considering bending as I have hit the standard 46 of each wedge in a sim, and they all seem to be just a tad short. Especially considering the increased spin, I want to make sure I keep reasonable distances. It should be noted that my factory 9 iron SHOULD be 42 degrees.

Definitely an option. If you're comboing MBs in the short irons, I'd assume you're comfortable playing a blade style wedge as your PW. Assuming the gapping works.

1 degree stronger should yield about 3-4 more yards of carry, so if that's what you need bend it a little stronger. It's a perfectly acceptable substitute.

Would it not be the same cost or cheaper to get the set PW? Golf galaxy has the Cobra King cab/mb at $171 per club and wedges ranged from $169 RTX6 up to $180+ for a Vokey or TM. But there is no issue play a specialized wedge as your PW

Just do it....I've been playing a Vokey 46 bent to 45 for many years. Never liked the pw from the 710 AP2's or the 718's I played as much compared to the "specialized" wedge. The transgression has been SM4, SM6 & now SM10. The 10 feels gooood.

Above 40* as loft, we dont really have any benefits from cavity back heads, so from PW and up, we can all play blade wedges.

- dont assume that the loft gaps from the iron set is valid into blade wedges, thats really a question of VCOG location.

 

i suggest you just get a 46* and try it off, then you can look at its carry vs your #9, and adjust what ever might be needed.

Howard says it. No big deal to use a specialty wedge vs set wedge, but don't jump to arbitrary conclusion of the distance gap vs loft gap without testing. Try the wedge as it is, then make your decision to bend it, or not.

Blade wedges often have different shafts than the iron set, look different and players will often swing them differently. All resulting in different distances.  Try what you have as is and adjust from there.
