Fake scotty? newport studio putter

can you call titleist to see if it is real....is there a seriel number or something on the camerons like on irons and drivers? I would like to check on one I purchased last august from ebay.

I got a fake too, and was ignored by the seller, until I saw he had been caught... through the news article posted on here... luckily I only spent $125... but still a PITA...

 

I will never buy a high dollar item again, unless I know for a fact its real.

 

I still use mine, and actually really like it. ha ha. It is my "gamer" at the mo. Has some great feel, even with the crappy fake shaft. ha ha.

 

Mine looked exactly the same as yours, but even my grip says golfpride on the top. My sticker was on the top of the shaft too (in veiw at address), like yours, so a dead giveaway. I only found that out after searching on here.

wow that dhgate place it scary. They even have a lower price if you buy 6 or more putters. Who would buy 6 putters besides someone who just wants to rip people off.

Yes folks, even golf clubs are fakes now at a rapid rate! Some hav great quality, some have very poor quality, but the truth of the matter is, they are there! Hard to spot, but easy to buy fake!

 

 

 

Quick Check List to Avoid Fake Scotty Cameron Putters!

 

 

 

- Avoid sellers with less than 100 feedback

- Avoid sellers selling more than one of the same club

- Avoid ALL sellers from China & India

- Avoid all sellers with no return policy and who don’t accpet PayPal

- READ ALL FEEDBACK! Even some feedback is posted as Positive when the Buyer Claims the club is Fake!

- Even if the putter is listed as used, it still can be fake!

- Don’t Buy on eBay!

The Studio Style is the most prevelent knock-off here on e-bay, so here’s some pointers to help you spot the “fakes”.

 

 

 

-One thing for sure with the covers is the Titleist logo, the “T” is much more curved on a fake, and the aligment is usually further left.

 

 

 

-Also look at the letters “A” and “M” the A on a fake comes to a point at the top, and is more curved on an original.

 

 

 

- The “M” is much more straight up and down than on an authentic headcover.

 

 

 

- As far as the club itself, most phonies will not have the proper shaft, if the shaft is “TrueTemper”, be warned, it’s not a stock shaft, or at least it’s not common to see the actual “True Temper” written on the shaft itself.

 

 

 

-Additionally the Scotty Cameron sticker with club details will always be under the grip (not visible when at address), unless it’s a full wrap-around, of course.

 

 

 

-The most important thing is to ask for additional photos from the seller of a Studio (SC) putter, or any suspicious Scotty, because there are many fakes on the market now, ask for detailed photos of the sole, cover, and milled face.

 

 

 

-Also, the back will not show any signs of (buffing) on the backside of a fake, it will look almost “powdery”; this is a good sign the club was never really finished in the “Studio”.

 

 

 

- And Studio Style heads DO NOT COME WRAPPED IN PLASTIC!!!

Another sign that hasn't been mentioned is the 'insert' of a real Studio Style is made from a different material. Therefore it's a different colour to the rest of the club head. On fakes the insert is the same colour as the rest of the face.

I know last years model Studio's were prone to the magnet test are these as well? I just received mine today from a member on here with an Iomic grip on it. Went for the magnet test and it stuck like glue. I am leaning towards fake, but torn cause it was off this site. Rechecked the ad and no mention of it being fake.

Based on the insert statement above I am almost 100% positive this is fake. I though it was just used for the age. You can see it at:

No one mentioned it being fake on the comments, so I guess I am pissed for taking even this site for granite.

Please prove me wrong, or right either way I just need to know. Any help from this site would be great I really hate the bad taste it's left me right now, and I love it here.

Typically with the magnet test on a real studio select, you will feel some light attraction on the putter head, but it should not stick if you let it go (303 stainless steel is not magnetic). If you put that same magnet on the shaft, you will see how the magnet should react to regular steel with magnetic properties in contrast to a non-magnetic alloy like the 303 stainless. If it does stick to the head, then you can safely conclude your putter head is not made of the same material as the real thing and is therefore a fake...

The studio style putters are also milled from 303 stainless (with the exception of the insert which is GSS and I'm not sure about), but at least every other part of the putter head on the studio style should be susceptible to the magnet test...
