Fake scotty? newport studio putter

cant tell if it is real? g.f bought it for me for 170 used but in AWESOME condition? it is missing a paint filling on the back. just a small one. the paint filling that is missing is on the back of the putter. it is the line that seperates dots. it is supposed to be filled in. i know humans in factory do this. is it possible they missed it? please let me know. I have 2 days to return to seller from ebay. Thanks.

It's not worth it. You could get a mint one for that much from the BST. The face looks very suspicious to me as well. Send it back

Fake all the way. I've seen many of them. The dead ringer is the grip. Scotty's legit grips produced by Golf Pride do NOT have the white dots on them in the top and bottom of the grip. The dots are there, but have no white paintfill. I have also seen the same trick on Baby T grips. The ring around the top and bottom of the grip are filled in white also. I saw that on more than one fake Futura.

 

I have also heard an alarming rumor that people are now faking the serial number etchings on the putters also. Good luck with whatever recourse you decide to take!!!

Definitely a fake. Here are some quick observations based upon the pics. First, the grip has a white dot's on the top and bottom, the real grips don't have this. Second, the shaft label is on the wrong side of the shaft (normally it isn't visible at address).

i have tried it out in my basement on the carpet and that is it? if the putter head is the same shape and contour and what not shouldnt it be kindof the same feel as the scotty cameron?

Trust me, it is a fake. I made the mistake of buying one a few months ago that looked just like the one that you have now. Thankfully the seller refunded my purchase. There is a HUGE difference between the fake one that you have and a real one. The one that you have can be bought from China for around $60.

I'm very sorry to hear that. You might want to consider opening a dispute throrugh ebay and paypal. Sometimes that is all it takes to motivate the seller to refund.

Absolutely open a dispute - the fact the seller wasn't aware it was a fake (this seems a bit funny as well) has absolutely nothing to do with the situation.

Better yet, contact Titleist. They will be on him like white on rice. I've done it before to a fake Cameron seller. And open a dispute. You'll get your $$ back.

For sure open a dispute, of course he is going to say he didn't know it was a fake and come up with some bs reason. Contact ebay, contact Titliest, and let him know you are doing this and maybe he will comply.

Besides people altering OTR putters and attempting to sell them as tour putters the Studio Style is really the only fake Scotty Cameron that people are selling on ebay. Just this morning I saw a guy with 4 seperate auctions for fake Studio Styles (I reported them all). Most times it is blantant that it is a fake, but sometimes it is very hard to tell, especially if the pictures are not very good. If you are looking for a Studio Style I personally wouldn't buy off of eBay, I would either buy locally, check the BST forum here, or check on CameronCollector.com (where I ended up buying mine).

 

I imagine that most of the people selling these fakes know that they are fakes, the response tends to be that they received it as a gift, they don't know anything about golf and they just wanted to sell it as they didn't need it.

Ditto blkdiamond. And also watch out for "stock photo" guys. That is a giveaway sometimes. The studio styles are the main fakes. Futuras used to be bad, but not so much anymore. Camerons also do not come shrinkwrapped on the clubhead....only the grip is in plastic. The fakes out of China are shrinkwrapped for some reason.

I forgot to mention about the shrink-wrapped head, that is a dead giveaway. Also, the headcover is shaped different than the real ones.

 

Regarding father-in-laws, I just bought mine a Circa 62 #2 for his birthday, should gain me a few points.

But seriously, how do people get them? This boggles my mind. I remember working at a Nevada Bob's in the early 90's and people would have knockoffs, but never saw a fake.

Just wanted to add some input to this thread.

 

I recently was also taken on a Scotty Cameron Studio 2.5... All the details in this thread were dead on in helping to ID the fake. Great job trying to keep these scam artists from taking money and ruining the SC market.

 

I appreciate it. I was refunded all of my money from the seller.
