I got backspin on my wedges, now how about to the side?

Making the ball go left or right after a wedge in to the green

I've been able to spin my wedges into the green with backspin considering I have a good ball and lie. Now, I would like to know how to get the ball to go left or right after the ball impacts the green.

Is this shot based on the landing spot on the green say a bit of side hill or the shot shape (draw/fade), a combination of both. Is there a technique to spin the ball left or right on a flat landing spot on the green?

It would come from hitting a real draw and fade, where it will fall left, or fall right and then it will spin left or right depending on what shape you hit. You have to understand though that if you have something like 6000+ revs on a wedge shot, and hit a draw or fade with a max 500-600revs then it ain't gonna spin too much left or right compared to back. The main thing that will make it go left or right is where you land it.

i hit the trevino "burner wedge" shot with my vokeys all the time. i set up with the ball back in my stance....take it back outside (hands don't get above my waist).....and drop it in the slot hard....it almost makes you accelerate into the shot. i aim about 3 yards left of the pin cuz that little booger is gonna take a hard hop to the right when it hits....and then stop on a dime. love the shot. hit it with my 52, 56 and newly purchased 60 - depending on distance.

 

you can also hit a little "hooky spinner" with a half shot, closed face, coming from the inside. it will hop left, but not at 90 degrees like the burner wedge hops right....more 45 degrees. don't use that one as much. i'm partial to the burner wedge.

This is how i can sometimes do it,either by hitting the ball on the inside or outside quater, i only get 2-3ft of spin though

I AGREE. The "burner wedge" is only something that I use on partial shots - but wow does it check and get right. I use the "hooky spinner" shot into the wind or sometimes when between my 54* and PW to find that middle ground distance. I will move the ball up to 15 yards right to left. The ball doesn't have as much action (which surprised me - there is a ton of spin generated from this shot) when it lands. For the most part it just stops on a dime and moves left a couple of feet. Both shots are fun to practice and great to use on the course - when executed correctly you can fire at any pin - regardless of how firm the green might be.
