Newport Midslant

I understand the mechanical difference in the Newport Midslant (removal of the neck extension to provide better sight line to the ball).

 

I need your opinions as to the functional difference of the putter (especially versus the other versions of the Newport series).

 

I found one at Golf Galaxy for $99. It was late on Dec 26, so I didn't bother the staff to measure the specs (loft, lie, etc). I was rolling the ball very well & consistently with it. I loved how it set up for me. Now, I am tempted to trade in both of my Mills Workshop putters towards the purchase of the Midslant.

 

Any and all opinions are welcome.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't get rid of them if you don't necessarily have to. If it comes down to the cash, you'll be better off selling them here (or "America's #1 Marketplace") instead of taking a hit at Golf Galaxy.

Keep the workshop...especially if it's in good shape. you won't get your money's worth on a trade or off of Ebay. The Workshops originally were very pricey and you can pick them up now for less then $50. I picked up a 10/10 Workshop II for $60 about six months ago.

 

For $99 you cant go wrong on the Midslant. Loft an lie will probably be like all other Camerons unless someone bent it. It should be 71*/lie angle and 4*/loft.

I'd spend the cash, but the XBox 360 and games wiped me out --- especially as my wife is concerned.

Ditto that! I've owned both MidSlant and "regular" Camerons, and frankly - it's all visual appeal, if you ask me. Does one aid better in pushing/pulling putts? Probably not.

 

However.......I think that the "MidSlant" version offers a very unique look at address, and helps me visualize "trapping" the ball towards the hole better. The offset will also make a difference in the balnce of the putter, and what feels better to you. While I prefer the visual appeal of the ProPlatinum finish, and the "MidSlant" hosel design, a recent putter fitting session proved that I was putting better with my "Plumber's Neck" Cameron. Go figure! Here's a couple of pictures at address to see how it looks.......

Yep, I broke down --- ok, well actually, my wife LET ME "break down" --- and purchased the Newport Midslant. I loved using it in the bonus room last night.

 

My only small issue is that it's the curved bumper set of the Newport, rather than the block bumpers seen above (i believe that's a Newport 2 right??).

You're correct. The curvier bumpers, and the more rounded sole is the NEWPORT. (you can see the rounded sole of the Newport in this picture)........

 

 

The NEWPORT 2 has a cambered bottom, with a Flat section on the bottom. YOu can see it in this picture...........

 

 

I've owned both Newport and Newport 2 MidSlants. I can tell you that the Newport somehow feels a little more solid at impact than the Newport 2 - I think it's because of the slightly taller putterface, who knows? At any rate - you got a GREAT deal there, enjoy the putter! :)
