Public Golf in Tennessee - 54 holes within 30 minutes

Recommended Posts

=-=-=-=-=NEED HELP==-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Hey all. I'm looking to travel south to play some golf on April 19 and 20th. We were going to go to Nashville, but the Hermitage courses have tournaments. We want to play 36 on Saturday, and 18 Sunday morning. Are there any locations that have 36 holes (two good courses) close enough to do 36 holes in a day? We'll then play 18 somewhere else the next day.

PLEASE HELP!!! 2 guys are coming from St. Louis / 2 from Indianapolis. We didn't want to get all the way down to Alabama...we're trying to stick within 6 hours of both....any suggestions??

A couple of places that you might try...

Windtree in Mt. Juliet...not a bad track, some ok holes, some good holes, some REALLY good holes.

Pine Creek in Mt. Juliet...again, not a bad track and the two courses are about 20-30 minutes apart.

Here's the links to these:

Windtree Golf Club

Pinecreek Golf Club

These aren't as tough as The Hermitage (I'm a member at Hermitage), but they're fun to play...

For your one day trip, take about an hour and fifteen minutes and drive to Cadiz, KY (just northwest of Ft. Campbell right up I-24) and go to Arrowhead State Park Golf Course...I haven't been there in about two years, but I remember it being a lot of fun and fairly difficult...

If you need some more suggestions, send me a PM...

if you dont mind me asking, how much is a membership at Hermitage? do you just have to pay for cart fees after that? unlimited range? and golf on either course?

man, you got it good. id rather be a member there than Legends....only place id rather be a member is Governors Club....and maybe not cause there is only 18 there.

There are some very good courses available for the public to play in and around Nashville besides the two at Hermitage. Here are a couple to seriously consider:

Gaylord Springs at Opryland -- hosted several Senior and LPGA tournaments and can play long or short depending on tee selection. www.springhousegolf.com

Greystone (Dickson, TN; west of downtown Nashville) -- great track and challenging, especially when the wind is up. www.greystonegc.com

Twelve Stones CC (Goodlettsville, TN) -- you could play here and at Gaylord Springs to get in 36 holes

Montgomery Bell State Park (Dickson, TN) -- you could play here and at Greystone to get in 36 holes

If you are heading west towards Memphis, there are several wonderful courses along the way. Here are a couple I recommend:

Eagles Landing (east of Jackson, TN) -- challenging and fun, as it is cut out of the forest; not much on amenities, but a good course to play

Bear Trace at Chickasaw (southwest of Jackson, TN) -- one of my favorites

Bear Trace at Ross Creek Landing (southwest of Linden, TN) -- FANTASTIC, and NOBODY plays it

You could get 36 holes in at Eagles Landing and Chickasaw, but it is about 1 hour drive.

PM me and I can give you more information. I have a couple more courses I could recommend, but need to know more about your expectations (difficulty, length, amenities, etc.).

There is another fun course up just over the Kentucky state line off I-24 as you are heading up towards Hopkinsville. It's called Novadell. I played there a few years ago with a group of guys and we had fun. It may be too early to be of much challenge in April as they let the "heather" grow up to frame most of the holes.

Some other choices are: Tee-2-Green and Pebble Brook in Joelton, TN.

I'd recommend you check out Crossville. It's about 1.5 hours east of Nashville and is considered the golf capital of Tennessee and has several good courses. Stonehenge, Heatherhurst, Bear Trace. All of these could be played in 36 hole combos.

If you'd prefer to go to West Tennessee, I'd suggest you play the Bear Trace at Ross Creek Landing and either Bear Trace at Chickasaw or Falcon Ridge.

I would not recommend Windtree and Pine Creek. IMO these are muni tracks and not worth driving from Indy to play. To quote a friend of mine, there are two things I don't like dealing with on a golf course...wind and trees. So why would anyone name a course Windtree? What's next? Roughpond?

If you are determined to stay close to Nashville, you might also consider Greystone (previously suggested) along with 18 at Montgomery Bell State Park. They are very close together, within 2-3 miles. MBSP isn't a super layout, but it does have several pretty holes and you usually see some wildlife (turkeys, deer) which adds to the abmience. A positive to this gameplan is you can stop in at Carl's Perfect Pig in White Bluff for some of the best BBQ anywhere. (Hope this thread doesn't turn into a BBQ discussion).

I agree, Crossville and Fairfield Glade are the way to go. There are some great courses up there including Bear Trace. I go on a golf trip up there every year and we play 36 a day Fri-Sun.

Hermitage courses are good courses as well. Member at Fairvue, but play Windtree, Hermitage and others as well. Used to play Greystone a lot when I lived out that way.

Thanks to all for your input. We've decided on 36 both days. We're playing:

Hermitage (both courses)

Gaylord Springs

Greystone

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.....

Plus, partying in Nashville!!

  • 1 month later...

Thanks for everyone's input. We had a great time on our trip. I just wanted to post, in case anyone else searches in the future, about the courses.

Both hermitage courses and greystone were great, and a great value. Gaylord was one of the most overpriced courses I've ever played. It wasn't in agreat shape, it wasnt a tremendous layout...but it was still $125+ (but you get a free DT Solo Ball  ) It should be about $65, as in my opinion it was the worst of the 4 courses.

Thanks again all!@!
