Anyone using this? I just snagged one for a moderate price, could have been better, but hey, I have been wanting an anser for weeks and kept missing my deal. I was on the verge of ordering a new one but still liked the older style. The only thing is I got a bronze one? Not sure, that's what I was looking for.......but I'll try it....maybe it will darken up quickly. Anyone know a way to clean it, or darken it? What the characteristics of this putter?

thanks

I kinda collect anser putters, more so the styles of ansers as opposed to the little production variances.

I prefer the 2 to the 3, but they are quite similar. If you like one, you'll likely like the other. Ansers are all fairly similar (original, 2, 3) until you get to the 4s, which have a different and shorter hosel. The 5s are face balanced, but otherwise similiar. Then there are a ton of other varieties with different little quirks.

The manganese bronze putters will patina, but it takes some time. You can polish them up with brasso, or something similar if you want them lighter, but I don't really recommend it as it can be distracting at address. I don't really know of a good way to make them darker. I honestly don't like touching the heads at all.

I game an Anser 2 BeCu most of the time. I swap it out earlier and later in the season with a specify Anser heavy for the slower greens.

Welcome to the most copied and successful putter family in the history of golf. I love putting with ansers, and if I ever stray from ping for putters, it'll likely be to another anser style putter.

Kinda/sorta. Anser has gone through a good number of changes over the years, but in the current lineup, the Anser is virtually identical to the Anser 3, except the Anser 3 doesn't have a soundslot and does have a flange line. Both are only available in manganese bronze. Anser 2 is (currently) only available in stainless, never in MnBr and is a little shorter (looking at the face from topline to sole) and longer from face to flange--though they are about the same depth (face to flange). The Anser 2 headshape is the same one you'll see on the Anser 4 (short, shaft-over), and is very close to the other stainless Ansers (small changes in the shoulders, heel, and whatnot to accomodate different neck styles). Scottsdale Anser is similar to Anser, except it has softer lines (and is based on older Ansers). Great putters though. I've got a good number of tour and custom putters, but I game a Ping 90% of the time. I personally didn't like the MnBr's as much as the stainless and BeCu ones, but variety is the spice of life and whatnot. :cheesy:

So I am guessing it doesn't have the becu soft feel? Might be alright though, you never really know till you use it. I am just worried about the about the color being a distraction. Was hoping for stainless or beni color, I guess..either way thanks for the insight. I am glad to see people aren't as got up on the new "old school" style putters, that cost way to much....

No, it'll play plenty soft. Most/many of the MnBr putters have/had the soundslots to make them feel hard despite being a softer material (better feel/sound match for the old school balls, which were plenty soft). Color is good too--great look when the patina sets in and you'll have no problem with glare and the darker color frames the ball well. Good idea would be to use this putter for a while then figure out what you might like different about it and go from there (headshape, color, sound/feel, balance-swingweight, balance-toe hang, etc., let alone length and lie). Good luck.

December 2017 its Thread Revival Time

Ok folks, i read the info on Anser 3 MnBR Manganese Bronze, bought one, here we are !!

I bought it because it was 36 inches, local pickup and i hadn't had a Bronze Ping before!

I asked someone a week ago what the head would weigh and they mentioned around 320 grams.

This was 333 grams, Shaft was 109 and Grip 77, came in at 511 grams.

So wanting the Famed 350 gram Head Weight, but without lead...

I added 17/18 grams of head tack solution down the shaft and let it set.

That got me my 351 and 109. Now i can look Ford to Hi Performance Putting.

I re epoxied then added a Ping Grip PP58 and even rolled the shaft to check the Spine !!

Shaft is at 9pm to target !! Total 539 grams, nice feel, and two days in Coke fri sat nites !!

PS the shaft popped off after say 1 minute with gas torch on low low setting.. so the ball bearing Didn't Win Today !!

Go Save a Ping and Play Your Best......
