Replace a 3 wood with a hybrid?

I've been debating getting a low degree hybrid to replace my 3 wood. It's not that I'm hitting my 3 wood poorly, but I was thinking the hybrid might be a little easier and consistent. Has anyone tried this?

I don't think I would ever remove my 3 Wood from my bag, I will swap my Hybrid with my 2 Iron , but I guess it would depend on where I might be playing, how I am playing. You can try it for a round , maybe you will find it a better set up for you. keep us posted if you try.

For almost 12 months I used a Heavenwood 14* in place of a 3 wood, I was hitting balloons with a 3 wood for a long long time. It has a strong RCH in it and is great off the tee and the fairway. Generally longer and lower than any 3 wood I have used.

I have recently put the 3 wood back in, but only because I get easily bored with keeping the same gear in the bag :busted_cop: , the ball flight on the 14* Heavenwood is low and boring, particularly with the stronger shaft.

i did try a taylor made recue fw as a 3 wood and realy liked it but it wasnt better then the 200 series so it didnt take its place

you should give it a try. Can't hurt any, if you're already hitting it bad, it can't get much worse. Plus if you don't like it, you can have a nice paperweight

The overall all MAX distance may be shorter, but if the hybrid is *consistently* longer and more controllable, why wouldn't you switch?

Although I have room in the bag for both. I hardly ever use the 3-wood anymore. I have a 16* Rescue Mid NS950GH steel shaft and a 15* V-Steel 3-wood. The Rescue is much more versatile from a variety of situations and much more reliable. I'm thinking of chucking the V-steel and getting a 19* Rescue Mid.

You got me thinkin....the 3 wood is the most tempermental club in my bag...but I hate to loose any distance...and I havent found a hybrid that looks good to the eye.

what good is distance if you can't keep it in play?

i would sacrifce 10-15 yds on my 3wd if it ment i'm staying on the short stuff hitting a 8iron into the green instead of punching out of the trees ducking and weaving through the branches 125yds away.

longer is not always better. :busted_cop:

I was also thinking about this idea. The problem is though there are so many clubs I want with so little cash I cant really do any of this. I currently use a 17* Titleist 980F and even thought I've hit some of the best shots Ive ever hit with this club, I have also had my share of aweful shots.

I tried out a 14* Recue Mid TP a while back and couldnt get over how easy it was to hit and how much more control I had on every shot.

the 503h took out my 5 wood for now, but i think the 3 wood is staying put. Its hard to replace the 3 wood distance with a hybrid, however the accuracy of a hybrid does have its advantages.

This line of thinking is typically used when rationalizing hitting 3wd vs driver. If you are going to apply it to hitting a hybrid vs a 3wd, pretty soon the only thing in your bag will be a 7i and putter.

If you are left only 8i into green after hitting a hybrid off the tee, then you are longer than most and lucky. I doubt many ppl have a simple 8i into green after hitting 3wd, or even driver.
