nothing has been confirmed by my understanding. There is still rumblings about it, but as many know, it's only speculation with Tiger until he confirms something (which he never does). Unless somebody gets their hands on his driver and measures it, which ain't gonna happen, I don't think we'll hear verification of it anytime soon...just my opinion of course...

I know last week people were talking about Tiger's driver being shortened, has the been any more update on this topic or pictures from the practice rounds. I think I could use a little off the driver, if it helps me stay in the fairway. You can only get away from playing out of the other fairway so many times.

Taking an inch off the driver was the best thing I've ever done in my golf career....I'm not kidding. I didn't lose any yardage at all, but I hit way more fairways than I could imagine. I'm 5'11 fyi

This is just a speculation.

If he had just shortened his driver, assuming that it's still the same head, he would either have to either:

1. pull the shaft out, add rat glue in the head to get the same SW, put a new shaft in

2. put lead tape on the driver to achieve the same SW

It seems that Tiger is so particular about his equipments, I don't think he would pull shafts in and out of his gamer very much. And I don't see any lead tapes on the above picture.

im pretty sure theyve made multiple drivers for him to try. i dont think anyone on tour would tinker with their gamer like that... they easily can have other drivers made. he could have a shorter driver that is his back up we dont know

Oh I am quite sure that he's got multiple test clubs.

I am just saying that Tiger is so particular about his equipments so I think the logical thing to do would be to keep the same shaft and add lead tape instead of having to go through and find a single particular shaft to his liking, unless it's something significant such as when his gamer driver cracked and he said his backup spun too much.

Just my logic.

I have always wondered if Tiger's driver was shorter than standard, it's always appeared that way to me. Just watch him as he addresses the ball, it's definitely shorter by at least an inch. In photos that I've seen of Tiger with his driver, he has lead tape on the shaft, one strip located approximately 3" below the grip and another strip just above the ferrule. This makes you think that he's compensating for weight loss in the shorter shaft. Think back a few years, most of us hit our drivers much straighter when the standard graphite shafts were 44" and the heads were around 280-300cc. All the clubmakers now market to our obssession with distance off the tee, and although they say the 460cc heads, attached to 45" or 46" shafts, help to hit it straighter, do they really? Personally, I don't think so.

Yes, Tiger probably has 3 or 4 driver's built to the same specs as the one he uses right now. If he did shorten it, they just took a backup and shortened the shaft and added swingweights or rat glue to get it where he wants it. Then he tested it, his gamer was never touched in the process. If he shortened his driver, it is a new one...not his old gamer "cobbed" together.

there is no way in the world that someone on tour would worry about pulling a shaft out, espicially tiger, im sure he could always get another head, if tiger couldnt who could lol, he would have had a few driver heads made up all with different weights, but if he cut it down he always could use a heavier shaft to get the swing weight up

I'm not sure what the length is he's going with these days but he's said that he's been playing a 45" driver for a while. Again, that's not to say he's not tinkering with something now.

Lead tape? You can see some on the heel in the pic with O'Meara. It extends to cover a little of the yellow on the sole. None on the shaft anymore. I'm not sure when he stopped doing it but he had some wrapped just below the grip and just above the ferrule. There's no lead tape on the shaft he's currently playing the only thing wrapping around it is the Diamana flowerband.
