Black Golds....need some help

Semi Review

Ok i installed black gold x-100's in my TP Rac MB's a week and a half ago. I put them in stock as i thought that would be fine because i have always played TT DG X-100's and my driver swing speed is around 114-118mph. My initial thoughts were that i really liked the shafts and i still do, but only in the 6-PW...the 3,4 and 5 feel VERY Heavy and boardy and it seems as if i cant make solid contact with them and i am a Good ball striker and play to a +1 hndcp. I really am stuck on what to do now, sell them and go back to the DG x-1's or start softstepping these? I am usually a Moderate High Ball hitter and with my 6-PW is no problem hitting the trajectory i want but the 3 and 4 especially are lower than my old DG's and like i stated before everything seems to be hit a grove low for some reason? Any way just looking for some opinions on what to do?

I had the exact same problem-sold them and went back to DG's. I now have PX 6.0 and feel they are too light and I don't feel the clubhead as well. I guess I'm just a DG person-been playing them for a long time.

I hate to abandon them all together but seriously my 3 iron feels like a sledge hammer. its ashame I wanted to try the new technology but I guess sometimes newer doesn't always equal better for everyone

Would having a shaft thats to stiff cause me to hit my long irons a tad thin or is it the weight? Like i said before i am a good ball striker and i have always played blades since i was 15( i am now 26)

I'm not sure i installed them stock and trimmed the excess....i dont have acess to a scale but i can take them to a local golf shop and check them

start there you might be suprized to find the results. you would need to back wiehg tif they are too heavy or try to get used to the heavy feel (I love it).

well i dont mind the heavy feel its that the longer irons feel like tree trunks that i dont like

I wish i could help ya, but i put my Black Gold's in my Mp 32's and love them. They helped with my ball flight and actully i think gave me some extra yardage. (or it's in my head)

 

But I was worried before i made the switch, now im very comfortable with them. As far as the tree trunk feeling long irons...i agree partly but then again im a fan of having tree trunk feeling clubs. Which is why i play a Graff Blue shaft in my driver.

Perhaps you should've gone with TT Tour Concept? Softer than DG in feel, but flighted. I got them and longer irons don't feel boardy at all. They play true to its flex. I've never tried BG though, so I can't make any comparison.

Golfsmith sells the Black Gold .355 tapered shafts individually. Why don't you buy the 2 iron shaft and try it in your 3 iron. If that solves your "boardy feel" problem then you can softstep your 4, 5, 6, and even down to your 7 iron if you choose and it will only cost you $22.00 plus shipping. I would certainly try it before you scrap you Black Gold's.

I agree but I would not softstep the 6 iron. If not pull them and sell them to me:-)

i wonder if i softstepped them once or twice if this would help....i dont think once will do it but my question is wouldnt the 1 iron shaft be heaver than the 3 iron shaft?

I don't think you will notice the diff in weight as much as the feel. I started with the stiff Black Gold 5 iron shaft in the 5 iron, and then put it in the 6 iron. What I noticed was the smoother feel, not the weight diff. I'd start by softstepping once, and if that's not enough, then go twice.

yeah thats what i am thinking but my issue is getting the freaking grips off....i've tried blowing them off but thats not working since i put them on with tape and solvent :russian_roulette:

Gotta get some solvent back down in there. There are a couple threads about "saving" grips.

i've decided to softstep i will let you all know how it goes....ive already done the 3 iron shaft in the 4 iron head we will see how that goes first
