Need Iron Shaft Suggestions (Rifle, True Temper, Nippon?)

Recent Trackman results/info

I had an iron test/fitting on a trackman. Hit a bunch of different irons and average Swing Speed with a 6 iron was b/w 85 and 86 MPH, Max Height ranged from 27 to 34 yards, launch angle b/w 14 and 17 (usually in the 15s) and landing angle was between 51 and 58 (depending on the iron). I am not sure if those numbers are relevant or exactly what they mean, but just trying to give you all the info. I am not a high ball hitter - probably medium high trajectory. I have been playing the stock regular flex shafts in my irons. Probably need to upgrade/reshaft? I am looking for more distance and control (13 handicap). I hit the same clubs with regular shaft and a Rifle 6.0. The 6.0 was about 7-8 yards longer and more consistent. From what I have read, it may be too stiff for me. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Don't stand too close because I'm about to be flamed. IMO launch monitors are a poor way to fit clubs. It's also a bad idea to pick clubs based on some preconception about what flex is best for you. If you hit the 6.0 farther and more accurately that should tell you a lot about which shaft works for you. It's the 6.0, and I don't care what the monitor numbers say. Just pick the shaft you hit best.

You might want to give up what you are "reading".

The purpose of a TRACKMAN-aided fitting is to help you reach a conclusion. You stated your conclusion very well. Both you and the TRACKMAN data are saying the same thing- the 6.0 was longer and more consistent.

 

So many golfers never get to the point of a definitive conclusion- but you did. Congratulations!!!

 

Now the next step, depending on how much confidence you had in the testing methodology, and what kind of head you are choosing- understand that not all 6.0's are created equal. If it was a manufacturer demo club, I would pursue that model and specification. If it was a test club from a clubmaker, I would pursue purchasing your set or shaft installation from them.

 

Discussing the numbers and the correlation to your game is a worthy pursuit on a cold winter night, but for actual play, you are already there.

 

Abandon the reading material and shaft up that set. Regards, 3
