Good morning, I'd like to ask the group about driver shafts.

Well good morning all,

I thought I'd use the vast pool of knowledge here and ask a question that my golf shop doesn't have a good handle on. I am looking for a new driver and perhaps a new 3wood. I've hit and kinda like the LV4, but I am wondering about the stock shaft. I carry a 18 handicap, have a ss of roughly 92-98 and a ball speed of around 130. When I miss, I lash across the ball resulting in hard fade if not worse. I'm working with a pro to help me improve my swing path and where I swing from, but I'd also like to find out if there are shafts out there that might not exacerbate by swing flaws and help keep me in play off the tee.

So, are there any shafts that would fit that profile and help me to close the face in that head, or does anyone have another recomendation about different heads. Etc. Etc.

The best thing to do would be going to get fit on a launch moniter, there you can try any shaft and head combo and find one that suits you

When i first started I had a regular flex on my driver. I literally could not hit the ball straight. Constant slice. I got the Stiff flex F speed driver and it was an unreal improvement. then took a few lessons, my swing wasn't the problem, it was my hands. I wasn't closing on impact, once that was fixed, bombs away!

Anything with a medium to softer tip will help with the fade/slice. At a 18hcp, look into shortening your driver substantially until you can find the center of the face consistently.....somewhere around 44".

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been in jury duty all day, and it's nice to read up on this kind of thing. I am certainly working on my swing, and I've gotten better however not consistanly better. I'd like to try and match heads with shafts on a moniter, but without a golf shop or pro shop that has both the inventory or equipment it's a little tougher.

What I am hoping for is a suggestion or two to take with me and have something ordered or at least know what to look at the next time I've got the opportunity to find a golfsmith, edwin watts, etc...

Has anyone with some of my swing charactoristics hit either the whiteboard or the fujikura e series in the LV4. I've tried searching through the reviews and the monster thread and didn't see that discussion.

Not everything works for everybody, but I got my first fitting for a driver 3 years ago and it made a difference. However, a choice that I made - against the "advice" of the fitter - was to shorten my shaft by 1/2". That might be initially tough for one's ego to swallow, but I'll take a tighter side-to-side dispersion over 10-15 yards of lost distance any day. Hitting more fairways tends to soothe that bruised ego...

My swing is much more consistent now, so I'm going to switch drivers and shafts soon, but that 1/2 inch made a difference for me when I was playing to a 17 and I'm now an 11.4. Good luck!
