How to cut and adjust?

I have a set of graphite shafted irons that currently have a swing weight of D1. I want to cut them down around one inch. What is the best way to cut the butt end of a graphite shaft? What do I have to do to get it back to D1? Thanks

Cutting an inch off that set will drop the swing weight 11 or 12 points per club.

All graphite shafted iron sets have an inch longer shafts then a steel shafted set.

If you like graphite and want steel length, sell the set you have.

You might be able to get a new set of graphite shafted irons at traditional steel lengths from PING, but even then to get up to D1 the set may have to be a 1/2" overlength.

The only way to cut the shafts by 1" and maintain the swingweight is to extract the shaft from the heads, cut the butt end of the shaft by 1" and add a graphite shaft TIP weight of the required weight (dry fit and swingweight check), then re-assemble.

 

A qualified or accomplished club maker would be required. Not hard to do, just time consuming. I can do no problems, but you have to take the cost into consideration.

 

As the previous poster stated, it maybe best to look at getting a new set of clubs tailor-made to you specs, it maybe $'s well worth spendt.

Thanks for your suggestions. The graphite shafted irons I have are a rare Japanese model that is at the standard steel shaft length--not 1" longer like most graphite sets. I thought shortening at the butt end would increase the swing weight so it would be just a case of adding weight at the grip end. Hmmm...I am so confused. I love the forged heads so maybe the best bet would be to have someone completely rebuild it. Thanks guys!
