TaylorMade Burner Shaft Replacement

Hey all,

I'm fairly new to golf so please bear with me. I was recently given a Cobra F speed driver 9.0* with a stiff Aldila(sp?) shaft and I really like it. I swing very hard and I need to have stiffer shafts. I wanted to get a new driver so I went for the TaylorMade Burner because I heard it was good for beginner golfers. Its a 10.5* because that is what I found works best for me. The shaft is a Stiff stock fujikira. I was at the range on saturday and I could not hit the ball straight. I switch to the cobra, MARKED improvement. I like the head of the burner, so what could I replace it with that woud be extra stiff?

For me I couldn't get rid of the stock burner stiff re*ax 50 fast enough! My issue is that with the low kickpoint of that shaft my ball was looking more like a Mortar round going way up in the air.

 

I put a Aldila Proto by you and man, so far (only on the range at this point) I've been destroying the ball! Goto a fitter have him put you through the test and find a the right shaft. I'm not a big fan of Golfgalaxy but I know the pro at mine is pretty good.. but if you have a really good fitter near you GO! Run don't walk! He'll be able to give you the best advice.

That is what I figured. I just feel like the shaft is all wrong. I have a golf galaxy near me and the pro there is supposed to be decent. Just wish I would have picked up the XS shaft to start with. Oh well, live and learn! thanks!

XS depends on your swing speed, I felt the shaft was way to whippy for my ss which is about 105 give or take depending on my back. All I know is for me, the shaft made me balloon the ball w/ a 9.5 head and the back spin on the ball was about 5500+ and now I don't believe i have that issue! At our range the fence is 250, and with restricted flight balls I was putting the ball over the fence. Before I'd bounce up to it. Now I'm over it...more penatrating flight instead of way up and down..

Whippy is an excellent way to describe it. My buddies are saying they can see the shaft really flex with the burner but not the cobra. I guess I have to buck up and pay for a new shaft. Bleh.

Find out what kind of shaft (aldila) is in the Cobra and see if it fits the burner. Now, a 10.5 seems alot to me, especially since I'm a 105mph guy and still have over height issues with the 9.5 at times.

I should have just been fitted from the beginning, but I got a really good deal on the burner...although getting a good deal on something that doesn't really work is pretty dumb :yes:

how do i know what will fit the burner?

any shaft with a .350 tip will work. I bought my proto on ebay as well got it for 46 :lol:.. so far it's just awesome! Perfect for me!

If the Burner website says hit has a .335 tip in the shaft I have wouldn't it need to be a .335 tipped shaft going back in it? or can club fitters make them work either way?

i have the tour burner as well i feel the S stock shaft is really whippy......

 

im considering changing my shaft... does both .335 and .350 tip both fit for the taylormade tour burner?

The Tour Burner has 0.350" tip. The Tour Burner TP models have a 0.335" tip. Of course, you can always put a 0.335" tip shaft in either one, just use a shim for the TB's larger hosel.

 

To the OP, you can buy a new uncut Aldila VS Proto with 0.350" tip off e-Bay for about $50. It is great in the Tour Burner head.
