Thoughts?

What are the general thoughts on the Tomi putting system?

Does anyone own one? How accurate are they compared to the SAM system? How easy are they to set up etc?

It would be great to get some real feedback based on anyone who owns one or has used both the Tomi and SAM system.

I've also heard that a guy originally involved in developing the SAM system has developed the TOMI one.

 

He wanted to take SAM to the masses but the company wanted to keep the price high so he decided to set up TOMI and develop a consumer version.

 

Anyone else heard this?

Well, if it's good enough for Tiger...

 

The price makes it something worth considering. My son is a competitive junior with big goals for his game. I would definately spend the $ if I was convinced it provided him with info he could put to use without having an expert helping him. Any ideas about that?

Just found this interview - Marius Filmalter

It seems that Marius Filmalter was the designer of the SAM Machine.

 

I'm really interest to see how acuruate this system is compared to the SAM

Just a tidbit of info:

 

I emailed TOMI from their website with a couple of questions regarding computer system requirements (coudn't get the link to work on the site with that info) and recieved a call from them within 10 minutes of sending the email....that's pretty good customer service in my book!

I should be getting my Tomi system in the mail this week. I will post a full review on my site once it is done and link back to it. I am also going to do a video review as well.

I would be interested in knowing how much the infrared transmitter that attaches to the putter affects your stroke (in relation to its weight), and if it hinders your view of the putter alignment aid on the head of the putter.

The TOMI device is about 70 grams. Being placed so low on the shaft should promote more putter head lag through impact ( de-lofting the putter).

Comparing TOMI to SAM is like ..... apples to .... well never mind.

The consumer item you might just as well pass on and go to the pro model. You still can't use it outside like SAM though. (in fairness SAM has issues with low sun angle glare and can be sketchy in windy conditions.)

I ask folks if they would prefer 30 vs. 200? 30 Frame per second web cam vs 200 impulse per second ultrasound.

Triplet weight and location on the shaft do not influence the results and after a few practice putts at most every golfer I've tested has had no issue with it. I can't speak to the TOMI but think the same should be true. Triplet height on SAM is a full 10" above the sole of the putter which puts it into the balance point area on most putters.

TOMI when it works will give you good info to work from however if you want clear in depth data and reports that you can understand then SAM is state of the art.

The new 2010 software is just about ready to go. We're putting the final touches on the putter fitting module and will release it to everyone in the next few weeks.

For the record Mr. Filmwalter was the PGA consultant on SAM. Dr. Christian Marquardt and his team were and still are the brain trust behind SAM.

I have a Tomi Pro system and have used it for teaching, not doing too many putting lessons at the moment but its a good system for the price and my lessons have enjoyed seeing the feedback.

I have also used this for my own putting practice.

I would be interested in selling if anyone is interested, its in mint condition
