Playing in competition rounds with family member??

At my club we have a competition which runs throughtout the day, you book your tee pay your entry and play off the back tees.

 

Recently, we've had a member play with his father and shooting very low scores, however the same person then plays competitions at weekends with other people and plays poorly.

 

I know there is no hard evidence, but it seems abit dodgy to me?

 

Does anyone know the ruling on this? I've emailed the R&A but had nothing back?

Back tees? Hmm....

 

Any ballpark idea what very low scores and poor scores are? If the guy usually shoots 85 to 90 then goes out and shoots in the 70s with his family member then I smell a big rat.

As someone else pointed out, are they just playing a 2-some? If so, that's BS. Players should be randomly matched in events.

 

There's a golf website that offers discounts, and they host a 2-man scramble. Last year they would match you up with another 2-some if so requested. Gee, guess what, the two groups in a foursome both had great unbelievable rounds, in more than 1 tournament. Blatant cheating. Thankfully they trashed that idea and randomly match you up.

 

There needs to be an incentive for players to protect the field, and playing with someone you know isn't protecting the field.

Sorry for the delay been busy...

 

On a wednesday the guy plays in a 2 ball just himself and his father. His scores are around 70-73 (par 71 course) when he plays just with his father, when playing with anyone else in competition his scores are 80-85, seems suspect to me...

 

Unfortunately the option to pair them up with other 2 balls isnt there as not many people play in the competition, and they also go out later on in the evening when its quieter.

 

3 consecutive wednesdays he has shot between 70 and 73, between these rounds when with others he has shot 80+.

Sounds like his Dad has a magic pencil that instantly removes 7-12 strokes a round. He might want to bring that to the next inventors competition on the golf channel. ;)

I am not that good but the ability to go from mid 80s to shooting a 70-73 is almost impossible. Better golfers here than I may want to comment but I would expect going from 90s (my score area) to the 80s is hard and then going from the 80s to 70s is really hard then going from the 70s to high 60s is very very hard and what pros can do on a good day.

 

If this guy is cheating, which is likely, and it is a private club then he should get the boot. I have no idea why people do this. They only fool themselves.
