Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill

I'm playing at Pebble and Spyglass this next weekend.... :)

Anyone have any suggestions, hints, or helpful advice?

Bring a camera. Take pictures. Post them here for all to enjoy. Other than that...HAVE FUN AND PLAY WELL! Simp

watch out for the birds for your food!!! Especially if you leave them in the cart, and going to the green for putt. the birds will wait until you get away far enough from the cart. and then, jump into the cart to grab the food.

 

also, if you do get some food usually on the course, bring extra cash(hot dogs and drinks for two guys > 25 bucks )

 

Other than that, enjoy the scenes!

I've only played Pebble and my only suggestion would be to walk the course. I really enjoyed the views and got to soak in so much of the atmosphere and surroundings by walking. We also had a fore caddy that helped with the reading of the greens which I thought helped us a lot. Most of all, just enjoy yourself & take a lot of pics!

The caddy was a huge help to me. I also walked and think that that is the way to go. The caddy will carry your bag and do all the work.

I would just to enjoy the golf courses they are beautiful.

they removed too much iceplant from spyglass... whatever is left, well stay out of it. :)

Otherwise, it is about the experience and not the score. No one plays well there even the pros struggle, well except Phil.

Your a lucky man. Before I draw my last breath on this planet I'd truly love to play both courses. I took a trip out the Bay area several years ago and got a chance to drive U.S 1 from Monterey to San Francisco. It's a truly beautiful part of the planet. Just have a good time and enjoy. And yes, if I was you I'd definitely walk the course to get the TOTAL experience of how beautiful it is. :) :blink:

Pebble...

1. Allow extra time to warm-up since the range is not near the 1st tee.

2. Practice chipping, the greens are tiny.

3. Leave your approach shots below the hole for uphill putts.

 

Spyglass...

1. Carry a high lofted wood or hybrid because there are so many shots into uphill greens from 185 to 210 out.

2. For both courses, take the longer club since the air is heavy.

3. For both courses, pay your green fee and then forget about how much you spent.

On number 7, take one extra club and hit a little chip shot. I scored an ace with a 9-iron. See the pic in my avatar. My wife took the picture while I was hitting.

 

On number 8, aim towards the house, left center of the fairway. And you don't want to hit it more than 215 yards from the gold tees. Should leave you a mid-iron down to the green.

 

Putts break toward the ocean. The pull is strong and it messes with your head.

 

For all the other holes just enjoy.

First and foremost, enjoy yourself. I played Pebble last November (see my avatar - that's from the 18th tee as the sun was setting). I took a caddie but didn't like it since they double looped and my "partner" hit it much shorter even from a forward tee. If it's allowable, my advice would be to have the caddie take a cart if he's double looping. That way he can get to each of the players faster.

I flew it into the back right bunker. I was happy to see it there since I thought it might have been wet. I could not get up and down for par.

Pebble Beach #7 is breathtaking. The day i played was into a 20-30 mph headwind and rain. I played a 7 iron back in my stance and the thing finished 8 feet behind the pin. Best birdie I've ever made! I "yahoo'd" like a giggling idiot. Awesome course. I played it 5 years ago this month and still remember nearly every shot!
