DGS300 compared to PX5.0

Now I am really confused / Help read my Trackman numbers
So I went on my first trackman session today. Purpose if the trip was actually to get a lesson, but since I am in the market for new irons I thought I'd give a couple of different models a try... Ended up with MP57 and Cobra Pro CB and this is where the mystery starts...

The MP57 had a standard DGS300 shaft and the Cobra had PX 5.0... and I hit the Cobra 10-15 yds longer consistantly.. Numbers from the trackman was (6 iron) club speed: 90 mph / ball speed 116 yds and the av. carry with a yellow rangeball was 162 yds...

I have always been under the impression that I needed stiff shafts, but can PX 5.0 be characterized as stiff ??

Can anybody here tell me how to "read" my trackman numbers ?? And what will happen if i go one flex up to 5.5 ?? Unfortunately the did not have an orin with px5.5 shaft in it....

to compare apples to apples you needed to know alot more things about the irons.. like the actual loft of the head, etc. However it may be that PX 5.0's fit you well and they are on the lower end of what would be considered stiff. Also dont go by distance alone.

Woods : Callaway Razr TA, Titleist F3-05
Hybrid : Adams LSP XTD
Irons : Fourteen TC910 3&4I, Nike VRProCombo 5-PW
Wedges : Fourteen RM-11 54/60
Putter : Nike Method 003 Oven

No.......DGS300 are more like PX 5.25, however, the two shafts play totally different so as we've said time and time again, it's difficult to compare the two.

I could be wrong, but Ive always thought dgs300 = Rifle 5.75(if they existed)

PX is a different beast - no sense whatsoever comparing PX flex to DG flex. If your dispersion and performance in wind isn't affected there's no reason not to use PX 5.0 if you're smooth. My 5i ss is 92 and I play PX 5.5 softstepped, which I'd recommend in your case also. Much better too soft than too stiff with this particular shaft, btw.

forged is correct, DGS300's play at a rifle equivalent of 5.8. definitely not 5.25. word straight from many clubfitters/other threads on this site.

Comparing the butt stiffness of one shaft to another is practically worthless. During the golf swing, we apply several different kinds of forces on the shaft. Each of us does this differently. For example, a shaft that is torsionally stiff may suit one person's swing and not another. A shaft that is butt stiff and tip soft is different than a shaft that is butt soft and tip stiff, which is different than a shaft that is butt soft and tip soft but firm in the middle and so on. None of the many shaft performance characteristics are adequately captured by measuring butt stiffness.

Observed performance trumps everything else when it comes to fitting golf clubs.

I should have also mentioned that different iron heads hit the ball different differences. A while ago, I had an iron fitting where everything was fit up with quick change connectors. All the iron heads were exactly the same loft and weight. I tried a number of different iron heads with the same exact shaft (not the same model of shaft--this was a single shaft that we used with different iron heads). I was amazed to see that different iron heads were notably longer or shorter than others.

I recently found the same thing when I swapped one set of heads for another on the same set of shafts. One set of heads was 8-12 yards longer than another. Same lofts, same shafts, different heads.

OUCH. Where to start? First, PX aren't ANYTHING like standard Rifles - for one thing they're not frequency-matched, for another they're constant weight, for another the flex profile is totally different. They'll play much stouter for most guys than a Rifle of the same nominal flex. As I mentioned in an earlier post it's not really meaningful to compare them directly with DG, but if i had to I'd say that DGS does play similarly stout to softstepped PX 5.5 - in other words PX 5.25.

It's true that a DGS mid-iron will frequency like Rifle 5.7-5.8, but that similarity doesn't carry fully into the long or short irons. The only real way to compare is on the course, using the golfball you'll use in play - not in an LM and not on a range with range-rocks. For many guys, the PX will be more accurate if they can get used to the snappy feel. Nothing feels like DG, though - mushy and sweet. FST KB-Tour are PX-like in performance and smoother.
