Pulling a shaft out of one driver, adding it to another head

Can it be done?

Recently I purchased the Nickent 3dx Square Driver. Unfortunately, I did not know the face was 2 degrees closed, and after taking it to the range, it was a hook machine for me. It came with a UST V2 shaft, which I got in a Stiff flex.

My question is, can I (or my local club fitter) take the shaft out of the Nickent and put it in another driver head that I have?

Take it to the local club fitter. They will have the proper equipment to do the job and be able to save your shaft.

You just added a "fudge" factor to your original question. Let me see if I can explain quickly. It is called Bottom of the Bore. Simply it is how far the shaft sits up off the ground when insert to the bottom of the bore in a head. In a bore thru (club A) such as the Callaway picture the bottom of the shaft as sitting at the bottom of the bore which is close to sitting on the ground. Now picture another head (club B) with a hosel where the shaft sits at the bottom of the bore yet the botom of the bore is 1.5 inches off the ground. With me so far? If not, reread.

 

Now we have several issues. When the shafts were put in these two clubs two things happened:

 

1. They probably had different trim instructions to compensate for these Bottom of the Bore differences.

 

2. They were trimmed to final playing length thus if trimmed to the same final playing length, club A's shaft is 1.5 inches longer then club B's shaft.

 

There will also be tip "preperation" differences which could result in part of the tip prep (as in unfinished), sticking out above the head/hosel.

 

You might be able to tip trim and get club A shaft (the longer shaft) into club B ok at the desired length and trim. You may well not be able to get club B shaft trimmed right and into Club A at the desired length..
