Next week the LPGA will be playing the Cognizant Founders - in Clifton NJ (I've actually played the course, have a couple friends that are members, 27 holes, and really a drop dead gorgeous, manicured course). It is not only less than an hour's drive from my current house, but on behalf of my company I've actually been negotiating a subcontracting agreement with Cognizant to jointly pursue a project RFP. During the mindless BSing that precedes every Zoom/Teams negotiation we started talking about golf. So bottom line I got an open invite to the corporate tent on any or all days. 

 

So jacked. Totally hoping both Nelly and the Lyds are in the field (I haven't yet seen who's going to be there).

OMG that is soooo cool. My favorite girls playing (basically) in my backyard.

Both Cognizant and Mizuho offer $3.0 million purse, but Mizuho seems to be more well attended by almost all eligible players.  Maybe it's the venue, but more likely it's a very well run tournament:

I'm sorry, but that's a total BS explanation. What we are seeing the last year or two (across all sports) is sheer network greed. They are pushing the very limits - even in the multi-million dollar mothership of sports (the NFL - the KC/Miami game behind a paywall was an experiment). NBC/CBS/ESPN testing the very limits of what they can get away with in terms of charging to watch sports. Do not even dare put this on the LPGA negotiators and players Beth Ann. This is entirely on the media attempting to maximize revenue, suck every conceivable dollar out of our pockets - even if it is at the expense of fans. I hope they are coming close to understanding that they are on the verge of killing the goose that laid the golden egg. 

 

Sorry. Slightly upset right now. This is the Founders Cup. Both Nelly and the Lyds are potentially on the verge of something historic. And it is going to be tape delayed? How does that make any sense at all?

Nelly as a $4.50 favourite? I’ll just ignore those four 1s in a row and note she’s played the Cognizant once for one MC and search for the juice further down 

 

Don’t have to go far to see our beautiful Queen who is defending champ and played well 2 weeks ago. As well as the highly engaging Thitikul who has played here twice for a 5th and 8th. 20-1 for those 2 straight ballers. 

 

Beaten in a play off last time with a horrific 3 putt (that I thoroughly enjoyed despite being a big fan of hers) is Minjee Lee at 50-1. She was also defending champ that day 

 

I like this . Reminds me when that clown McIlroy goes off at  stupid low number . So much value in the field with Nelly just being too low (I did take the 5-1 last time on offer but this is a different field)

The site I use has those win/top5 bets where they exempt/eliminate the results of a few favorites at the cost of giving you slightly lower odds...typically like betting Jane Doe to win "without Minjee Lee, Ruoning Yin, Atthiya Thitikul or Hyo Joo Kim".  For this tournament it's just "without Nelly Korda".

 

The LPGA odds always seem top heavy, favorites expected to win, but looks like over half the field is 250:1 or higher.  I get that Blue Bay was not the greatest field and that she hasn't been consistent but seeing north of 600:1 for Tardy who has a win less than two months ago is the stuff that seems baffling.

I remember joking about this a few years ago. I'm glad she got an invite. If Nelly continues to have a good year will she be AP Female Athlete of the Year or is that Caitlin Clarks award already. Or an Olympic swimmer or gymnast?

Nelly can't draw 18 million people to watch LPGA like Caitlin Clark did for NCAA; no, Nelly won't win the popularity contest.  But, the athletic award is a matter of record; we won't know it until the end of 2024.
