clubheads coming loose on new set of clubs

I just purchased a new set of clubs and my 8 and 9 iron clubheads are loose....only after a few rounds and no range time. I have the 07 tm xr's reshafted on tour concept shafts..is it safe to say that the epoxy was comprimosed or they were prepaired poorly or just an overall bad job? my question being should I go ahead and just go to my clubmaker and get the whole set redone or just wait until they all get loose cause at this rate I think they might all become loose. I am a 12 hndcp w/ a driver ss of 85-95 so I am not hitting these too violent at all.....nothing like puring one and it shanks hard cuz of this...sound foolish too tryin to explain to the guys that it was because my clubhead came loose...any feedback will be much appreciated......

I would have them all pulled and reshafted by a reputable tech. Something to keep in the back of your mind, if you store you clubs in the trunk of your car or back of a SUV for long periods of time it is quite common for the epoxy to break down due to the heat. Golf club epoxy has a relatively low heat tolerance. I have fixed many a club only to find out the owner leaves his clubs baking in his car all summer long. Good luck.

check it isn't just the ferrule slipping.

same happened to me, washing my clubs in very hot water. obviously weakened the epoxy and somne ferrules slipped while one head came totally loose.

You do have a complaint. Take them back and do that. The tips on steel shafts, just as on graphite, must be sanded to remove the chrome before epoxy can be effectively applied. If such a thing was overlooked, then maybe that's the problem. Whatever, you have been given a poor effort and deserve at least a re-do. If they refuse, they may be liable for any injury or damage.

Thanks for the insight...I just got back from my local club fitter and he was nice enough to torque test the whole set free of charge as I watched...LESSON LEARNED---If you are going to purchase new clubs off of the net w/shaft upgrades be shure to ask who did the work and if they were torque tested afterwards any good clubfitter can do this....it is a piece of mind...thanx everyone..play well!

And why did you purchase "off the net" to begin with?

The sweet taste of a low price is soon outweighed by the bitter taste of poor quality.

I do a fair bit of business in my part time shop and would love to do more "Full Set Builds" and generate more local sales but the internet is here to stay so bashing those who purchase clubs from a source other than a "local" brick and mortar one is a waste of time. If you stay on your high horse too long, speak ill of everybody who purchases items from an internet source, and don't focus on generating business from any and all comers regardless of where they originally purchased their equipment your shop just may wither and die much like the PCS did (which is a shame).

I am all for doing business locally and currently own (2) small businesses and have owned and sold (2) others in the past and putting down potential customers is just bad business. It's a new world - embrace it and grow with it.

Rant over.

You need to make sure that the club builder who is making your clubs doesn't rush with the epoxy job. Notice it is your 8 and 9 irons coming apart. What happened is he mixed one batch of epoxy and tried to glue the whole set with that one batch of epoxy. Make sure he used Parallel shafts and not Taper tip. Parallel shafts should be used in all taylor made irons except for "TP" versions. If he/she did use taper ask nicely to put shims on shaft which will soften shaft a little.

Good luck

PS let me know what happened!

Without the shim the epoxy bond may fail. Epoxy needs tight fits to work properly, too large of a gap and it will fail. If the taper tip isn't shimmed, the epoxy will only have a chance on the non taper tip that is in the hosel, not enough shaft to trust, IMHO. Why would a shim effect shaft flex? If done correctly the shaft should be just as solid as a taper head and shaft.
