Has this ever happened to you during a round of golf?

Hi all,

I've been a WRX member for a while now but never had anything worthwhile to post until today.

I don't have much time to play golf these days with a 4 and 2 year old in the family. However early this morning I had the time to walk onto a local muni course for a quick 18 before the wife and kids got up.

Hit a nice drive down the middle on a Par 4, walked up to my ball, determined the yardage to the green, pulled my 8 iron, lined up my shot and was getting ready to swing when the greens keeper comes out of nowhere next to the green, pulls the white pin and proceeds to cut another pin location on the green.

I shouted down the fairway at him and asked what the heck was he doing but he just ignored me. My playing partners (whom I just met that morning since I just walked on by myself) were also confused as well.

When he was finished cutting the new hole location he put the flag back up but it was now a blue pin instead of a white pin. So now I needed to use a 7 iron instead of the 8 i already pulled. Why couldn't he just have waited until we finished the hole? Pretty inconsiderate I thought.

I told the Marshal about this a few holes later and he just shrugged his shoulders.

This has never happened to me on a golf course before so just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before.

It happens... When I worked at the course this summer I saw it a few times. It doesn't bother people here. They just wait. Our Greens are small so i guess its not as bad..

LOL. I would say WTF and laugh my @$$ off if that happens to me. It could have been worse, you could have been putting.

LOL. Never happened to me, but that is pretty crazy.

I have played where they wouldn't turn the sprinklers off on the tee box while we were teeing off. They also left it on on the green on the same hole (par 3). That is probably my weirdest run in with the greens keepers.

no but seriously it happens and unless you are playing at a club or higher end public course it doesnt surprise me i mean after all they do have to get the job done and while i wouldnt do that to someone i do understand...

I remember reading that someone's approach landed with a 1 foot putt for an easy tap in birdie, and as they were walking up to the green, the greenskeeper arrived and removed that cup. By the time they got to the green the new hole location was 30 feet away. :jester:

now that would suck..wonder if his playing partners still conceded his original 'gimme' or did they make him putt the 30 footer?

Btw, My buddies would have made me putt it out! :cheesy:

i had a guy start watering the green while i was putting... go figure. it was hot though, and to keep the integrity of the greens, and besides, i just got done with the putting stroke when he started (i made the putt) but i was getting self-concious with him waiting by the green with water dripping from the hose... o_O

I really don't understand why golfers should even see greenskeeps or maint crews. When I worked at a course 22 years ago, we were there at 4:30am to get all the stuff done BEFORE anybody teed it up on #1.

I have had that happen on my course. We were playing the front 9 and we were just walking off the green when a greens keeper showed up and changed the flag from white to red. Had he been 5 min earlier it would have been the difference of a 3 putt to a 2 putt for sure.

I play mainly on a military course and they do maintenance all the time, even by the greens. They dont stop working at all and keep the machines going even while your hitting. Hell they will drive the mower up the center of the fairway while your teeing off. Talking to management doesnt get you anywhere either. They are civilians who dont care.

I actually had the greens crew move the hole AFTER we had hit our tee shots on a par 3!!! It might have been maddening had any of us actually hit the green. Instead it was just sort of comical. Never returned to that course however.
