Do you take range balls if they are good?

Recommended Posts

I have taken some but also donated several out of the shag bag because I wanted to hit a few more. I think they add it up to the cost of doing business. At my local range I am not supposed to hit driver because I fly it over the trees at the end of the range. The balls fly into the street or yards across the street. I have lost allot of balls doing this but they just said to stop. So not much different then taking a couple here and there, cost of doing business. But still unethical.

I worked at a range for a few summers.

At the end of the summer they THREW THEM AWAY! It took 3 of us to lift it up into the dumpster....

Man, don't need to be throwing balls away. There are many struggling high school golf programs or underprivileged inner city golf programs that could use these balls. Most would probably come pick them up.

I work at a range where we do a lot of club fittings, mainly driver fittings where a LM is used. When we bring out the monitor, we also bring out a giant bucket set aside of premium golf balls so you can get fit for your new driver with the premium ball you use or if you want to try another premium ball then it is also available. When the guys pick the range and we pour the buckets, occasionally a ball is missed so technically stealing these would be theft.

I'm actually kinda surprised so many people take these balls form the range. I used to frequent a range where there were tons of nice balls in the buckets and never even had a thought of taking them. I play the same ball every round so I have no use for a different ball really. If you can't afford to pay $40/dozen for premium balls then you should take up another game or play a different ball.

Finding balls on the course is different I guess but even then I never pick them up. Someone else hit it there so its not mine and I leave it there. Now if you found a ball in a bush or something then sure I'll pick it up and flip it to my playing partners.

I don't know whether to be amused or disturbed by how eager some on this site are to call others cheats, liars and thieves. Seems like a daily event.

I think each range is different. Some use only range balls and will sort out the non-range balls to sell them in the shop. Others rely on "donated" balls or one's found on the adjacent course. I know I've donated my share of slightly scuffed priemium balls over the years and I have no problems snagging the rare pristine Pro V1x I might find (Usually only a few a year) on ranges that don't keep premium balls in circulation.

It was not my intention to call any one a thief . I was just telling the original poster my opinion,

I used to own a range where I was constantly finding my range balls on the course. I also used a lot of unstripped balls.

The club I belong to now the owner is very poor most of the balls on the range are unstripped and come from the course

Members donate there old balls all the time

It helps us have some decent range balls to hit you would not believe what we have on the range.

I am sorry if you were offended

Since I pick up around 10 range balls on the course every round and return them to the range, i feel en-'Title'ed to the odd pro v1 from a bucket.

I also will hit extra non-range balls from my bag into the range if i just want to hit a few before teeing off or my range session bucket ends on a sour hit.

I was not offended, more like tired. You're entitled to express your opinion.

I take a decent ProV if I find one. They have mostly been picked through though. The range uses all sorts of different balls, not range balls. I often take a cracked one or a balata with a big bump on it out and throw them out as well. I've taken like maybe 6 Prov's from there this year. So far, haven't lost much sleep over it.
