Am I crazy???

I wanted to buy new irons at the end of this season or before the start of next season. I am a die hard ping iron user, and was looking at either the g5, i5, or g2...well after reading a bunch of posts about how great of irons the eye 2+ are I was thinkin about getting them back from my buddy who is using them, and putting some new shafts, new grips, the whole nine. I was also thinking about sending them back to ping for a refinish...does ping do this and how much is it...anyone know?? But am I crazy for picking an almost (maybe more) 20 year old iron over a new set????

Uh,,, you might want to hit some irons? See what you like and what works for you?

Eye-2's are awesome irons. You have to be able to deal with old-school lofts (50* pitching wedge, check your ego at the door), and quite a bit of offset.

If your signature is current, I would upgrade to the g2's I used to have the ISI-K's and I Love my g2 irons, They are easily a club and a half longer and very forgiving. Plus you can find them pretty cheap. My understanding is that the g5s are not much of an upgrade to the g2s.

If you are going to upgrade i would also go with the g2's. the g5 was not a whole lot differnt at all from the g2's, except the price tag. The g2's are a great club easy to hit, long and forgiving. I also play eye 2+s now myself and after a reshaft with dgs300 and new grips i havent lostany distance at all. so its all up to personal prefernce really

I'm actually not using the ISI K's..they are just the standard ISI irons. They have just lost their luster for me. I was really excited when I first got them, but I'm ready for some new sticks. I've got it narrowed down between G2 and I5. I'm a single digit handicap, so I hear the I5's might benifit me with shot making while still having a lot of forgiveness.

I'm over 2 years with the I5's, and they aren't going anywhere. I went from an 16 to a 10 with them in that time.

If you look around, I think you will be hard pressed to find ANYTHING but good comments on the I5's - they just seem to have hit that perfect combination of clubhead size, topline, and offset to give that perfect combination of a lot of forgiveness with a bit of workability.

I understand you love Ping's and I can relate, but if I were you I would head to the proshop and hit everything there ignoring what is writen on the club. That is the only way you will truely find what fits you.

You are crazy for thinking that you ARE crazy. The PING EYE 2's have been around for 20 years for a reason - They are good. There aren't many other brands that can lay claim to that sort of record. Get 'em - you won't be disappointed.

OP was talking about EYE2+ (48.5* PW). EYE2 PW is 50.5*...

I love my i5's, I have hit both G2, G5, and the i5's- just liked th i5's best.

Plus the fact that some PING players still use the wedges is amazing.
