just curious.

i caddie some times through the summer here in CT. i enjoy it, id rather play, but its a good break. I caddie for my dad(3 handi) and a slightly older friend of mine(+2 handi). I like helpin my dad out because i know what he can do, and my friend, its great. Hes a really solid player and when you tell him, "left edge" he hits it there, and stuff like that.

i was wondering if any of you like caddieing.

i dont make money on it really, we trade services

I love caddying. I caddied this past summer for the Canadian Tour when they came to Niagara Falls, Canada. I had to caddy for an amatuer the one day but the other days I got a pro from Brazil. He was awesome and it was def. a great experience for me. Its out of this world how good those guys are but it also puts into perspective what you have to do to get to that level of golf.

During the Spring ,summer, and fall i caddy on the weekends or during the week if im needed for inter club matches. I actually really enjoy caddying its shows me a different perspective of the game. Even though i am not caddying for scratch + golfers i can learn from how i club them and the information i give. As a caddy you still have to go through the same thought process as you would when your pulling your own clubs only now your doing it for someone else. Its not a big deal that im not playin its only about 3 1/2 - 4 hrs sat and sunday mornings and im making good money. I have not made less than $50 a bag sincs 2 summers ago which was the first time i caddied and now im the caddie of choice at the club i caddy at so i get to caddie for the club champ on almost a weekly basis.

Love to caddy but wouldn't give up playing.....I caddied for a struggling pro on the mini-tours and also at Q school. He had mental issues...best ball striker I've ever seen and could shoot 62 any day of the week but would post 82 when the pressure was on. Nice guy...wish he could get his head straight.

I hired a local caddy for a tournament at Spyglass last year and the guys was awesome...he found something positive to say no matter how bad of a shot I hit or how terrible of a lie I had. That helped keep me positive. I'll always remember the first hole, long par 5, I over cooked it and was in the left rough...just as I was about to think.."nice drive knucklehead". He said, "great shot boss...now we can make a nice easy layup and have a simple wedge approach. Easy hole Chief"

Then it changed my whole outlook...I thought, yeah, he's right...this is an easy layup to 80 yards and then it's just a 9 o'clock SW to the pin"

I ended up making a 12 foot putt for birdie and was on my way to a 77. If you've never played Spyglass...a 77 is like shooting a 67...it was the round of my life and I have to think that caddie was a big part of it.

true story:

I caddied at a pretty nice private club near my home (Flossmoor CC) when i was like 13 or so... So i'm carrying this dude's bag and he's about i dunno 60 yards out or something and blades his L Wedge clear over the green and OB... next hole he has about 200 yards in, i give him the lob wedge he goes "What the f$%k is this?" my response "Just hit it like you did on the last hole!" oh man it was hilarious, everyone in the group was dying except him... the rest of the round he was pretty quiet and that was the last time i ever caddied...

That's a great story...but I would think some humor is good as a caddy, it's too bad that guy couldn't let go of that bad shot and laugh...he probably would've had a better round if he would've relaxed and laughed it off.

I would always try to make light of a bad shot or unlucky bounce. I caddied the same way I play...admire the good shots and forget the bad ones.

Have you ever been in a situation where you recommend a shot and the player goes against it....then blows it? It's hard not to say "I told you so" but that doesn't do him any good....a good caddy just has suck it up and find a way to keep his player positive.

I caddied for this guy at the Long Beach Open...the first hole is a short par 4 with a sever dogleg left. The aggressive play is to hit driver across the dogleg but there's a lake and a bunch of nasty trees if you don't hit it perfect....during our practice round he hits a few clubs and we end up deciding a 4 iron to the corner is perfect. He plays the course to his strengths and shoots a 66...of course I'm taking good notes and we come up with a good strategy. During the tournament I pull the 4 iron on the first hole and he puts it back and pulls the driver...hits a big high hook right into the lake guarding the green. That was the first shot of many....on his way to an 80.

Oh well...it was his money and I still got paid for the loop.....

I caddied for a really famous Italian pro who beat Tiger at the Ryder Cup hint hint, I starts with R finishes with ca (R***a). It was unreal, I was caddieng at my home course, I knew all the lines. The first couple holes, he thought I was cluless, then by the end I ended up aligning him, he said he had the best 4 putting rounds of his life. At the 9th, which finishes at the bar, there was everyone watching. I aligned him for a bird. He thought I was an idiot, so he moved to his old way. I noticed and in his backswing I shouted his name. He stopped and looked at me like an idiot, and so did the rest of the crowd. I aligned him again. And guess what? he made the putt and won the tournament.

great story eh.

ok fine the name is rocca if you didn't already figure!

I love caddying. My dad used to play on the European Tour and still plays a few events on the PGA Scottish region order of merit so I get a few opportunities to carry the bag. I really enjoy it.
