Ball recommendations for a slow swing speed?

My situation is sort of unique. I'm an amputee who plays golf without a prosthetic (I stand on one leg), so obviously my swing speed is on the lower end 85-90 with a driver at last check. But I play to a 10.1 handicap, despite my lack of distance, which is due mostly to hitting fwy woods well and being a pretty proficient scrambler.

 

I drive the ball 220-230, a 3W is 200 on the button, an 8 iron is 138. My current gamer is an NXT Tour, which I find is a good control ball for my game. But I'm looking for a little more distance, and a better chipping/putting ball.

 

I'm new to this forum but I can tell it's a knowledgeable usergroup. Any recommendations and why? Thanks.

The Noodle+ is an excellent distance ball for your swing speed. It's also a mid spin ball, thus the chipping & pitching on the greens should be okay to handle/deal with. It may run a little bit on the greens in comparison to the NXT Tour, but you will definatelly see more distance using your woods.

I think most folks here would tell you that your woods distance with the NXT Tour (high spin ball) is really good and that if you are very satisfied with it's performance on the greens, then you should stick with this ball.

P.S. - Golfsmith has '07 TM Red and '07 TM Black practice golf balls. Both are higher spin balls, perform very similar to the Titleist ProV1X & ProV1 , give awesome distances (& everyone knows, greens performance, these are the ones to play with!) and are selling $14.99 per dozen. Unfortunatelly, it's and "in store" sale (you have to go in person to your local Golfsmith, as you won't find this sale/deal on-line).

That's a big help, thanks. I don't have a Golfsmith anywhere nearby and have never played a TM except for a few found Blacks. Interesting that the practice ball is that different.

 

I really like the NXT Tour, but my putting is inconsistent with it. Particularly interested in the U-Tri Tour and the E6+ and how they might compare.

From what I've read, don't worry about performance quality w/balls labeled "practice" or "x" out balls from the manufacturer. Usually, these balls are just "cosmetically" not "on par" to what the manufacturer would want to put on the boxes to sell (logos misaligned, maybe not "shiny" enough, little things like that). So, if by luck you happen to pass by a Golfsmith, check out to see if they still have the '07's TM Blacks & Reds.

 

What I find strange is that you're not pleased with the NXT Tour putting wise. I got the Feb. '08 Golf Magazine in front of me (this issue has a VERY comprehensive article on 54 tested golf balls) and it states that the NXT Tour as having one of the softest cover.

 

Have not tried the U-Tri Tour nor the E6+, so, can't comment on them.

Try the Bridgestone B330-RX. It is the softest compression urethane covered ball on the market. (In case you didn't know, the slower the swing speed the softer the compression needed to achieve maximum distance results) The ball was designed specifically for those players with a 85-105 mph driver club head speed which is right in your alley. It also has a urethane cover which will provide much better spin around the greens than the Noodle and it should also feel pretty soft off the putter face.

 

It is brand new to the market and they are pretty hard to come by, but if you can find them I would buy at least a sleeve and try them. They are getting rave reviews and it might just be what you need to help your game.

Good tip on the TM's alfie. I've got a low 90's SS and have found the '07 TM Black to travel really well off irons and driver. I've hit some my longest drives with them. Straight off the driver too. Not super-spinny like a NOP on the pitches/chips, but will spin well if you hit it properly.
