tigerwoooo WITB for late 2008 - early 2009

Recommended Posts

Ok folks I finally got the time to take some pictures of my clubs to share with you. Attached also includes a pic of my previous iron/wedge set, which are MacGregor forged prototype MT with initials and Callaway X-tour in 54/60 degree.

My current set is:

Driver: King Cobra L4V F 9 degree in Tour AD MD-6S S-flex, SW: D2

3 Wood: Titleist 906F4 15.5 degree in Diamana blueboard fairway S-flex

5 Wood: Titleist 906F4 18.5 degree in Diamana blueboard fairway S-flex

Irons: Nike forged VR blades in DG-S300

Wedges: Scratch custom grinds in 55 and 60 degrees (All clubs in GP Tour Velvet Full Cord grips, logo down)

Putter: Byron Morgan 006 A.S.S. prototype 35.5 inches long with blacked-out Ping man grip

Ball: Taylormade TP-red

Glove/Shoes: Nike dri-fit Tour and Air Tour TW 8.5

I'm quite an old scool person in club selections as you can see. I've played 990.CB, MP-14, MP-33, 681 T-stamp, old Nike blades, MacGregor custom grind blades, then these new VR blades. I still keep the MP-14 (with a special serial number 07770 on the ferrule), T-stamp, and the MacGregor. I don't keep clubs w/o a special reason obviously. I also have about 10 wedges but gave away half of them; keeping 5 putters (4 of them are custom order; 1 from Tom Slighter, 2 from Byron Morgan, 1 from Titleist custom shop, and the other is Ping Stainless Steel Answer 2).

I am now struggling with my swing and in progress of a swing change so the scores are not so pretty. Anyway, it's good to be here!

What model muscleback is that or are they custom DW's? Nice looking either way...BB

Yes they are custom DW's blades - sharpe as butter knife. It was the first and only custom blades I've ever played and I was actually amazed at how soft they were when I first hit them, even though they were forged in 1025. They were just too nice and I was not updated with my latest order for the diamondback prototype blades Greg Norman played at The Open so I cancelled the order and decided to store those blades.

And the NIKE VR blades played well. I hit them a little bit further but they were easy to control and shape shots. I would say its quality is pretty good for Chinese forgings...

I am now waiting for my letter punches so that I can stamp my initials on the VR blades later on.

Having just bought a 906F4 15.5% woods and soon to be joined by a 18.5% wood i am interested to know what the trajectory is like with the diamana shaft ? i have a Pro V2 in mine and the ball flight is just right not too high or low , also them nike blades look mint ;) i know i would be better off with cavity backs but i have always liked to play blades .

I never had a V2 in my fairway woods so I can't make a valid comparison, sorry mate. I did have a V2 in my old 905R driver, which was left in Shanghai. I used to play DG-S300 in my 3 wood and after that I went to Fujikura Vista Tour fairway shafts then the Diamana blue board.

The trajectory is neutral. If you crank it up a bit you can still balloon the ball off the fairway though. I once landed my 2nd shot softly on a par-5; it was a 220-yard, slightly uphill, against a breeze. I flushed a 3 wood within 10 feet but missed the eagle putt...

I would suggest if you had V2 in your 15.5 you better have the same shaft in your 18.5. It'll be easier for your swing because two different shafts play differently even when they have similar specs and kick points. Just my $.2

Thanks for the info tigerwooooo , i did have my eye on a 18.5% with a PRO V2 on ebay but its gone now and i could see it going before my paypal funds had gone in , so i will have to take a chance on one with a differnet shaft or see if i can get on elsewhere for a good price .

Patience rewards man. If you really hit it off with the V2, I would suggest you wait. I think you keep fairway woods in your bag for a fairly longer period than a driver. I'm not planning to get any fairway woods in a year or two. I'm fine with these. So if you are tight on money and play V2 well, you should wait. I'm sure there will be another one coming in...

  • 2 weeks later...

VR's play slightly longer than my custom DW's but the feels aren't so good eventhough they're both made from 1025 carbon steel.

I got the VR set to replace my DW only because I want to keep those irons as intact as possible given all these rumors regarding macgregor, plus I prefer irons with sharp heels. VRs are also easier to play (more forgiving) than my DW.

I play DG-S300 in both sets so the difference pretty much only comes from the forging process, I assume...VR's not bad for the chinese forging, as I always said...

lol

Those beefy Macs blow doors on the VR!  Crisp and clean looking, I like those.  Do you get a lower traj with those than the VR?   Just seems like those VR would get the ball up too much.

humm...not really. VR's are just more forgiving. As I said I bought the VR just because I had to stock the macs before they got worn out...
